The final WTA 1000 tournament of the year in Wuhan started excitingly, and day 2 is loaded with 13 brilliant first-round matches, which promises many close battles. Ashlyn Krueger vs Viktoriya Tomova
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Ashlyn Krueger has been in good touch on hard courts despite not making a deep run in any of the tournaments. She has lost only one match as a favorite since Wimbledon and has lost to some great players. She will fancy her chances against Viktoriya Tomova, who doesn’t play her best tennis on this surface. Krueger’s big serve should favour the fast conditions in Wuhan.

Camila Osorio vs Jaqueline Cristian
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Camila Osorio lost a close match to Amanda Anisimova in Beijing and will look to get back to winning ways immediately. The Colombian player’s fighting spirit has won her many close matches this year and is one of her strengths. Jaqueline Cristian ended her four-match losing streak in Beijing last week and also took out the Wimbledon champion, Barbora Krejcikova. That should give her some much-needed confidence heading into this match. This is a winnable match for both the players and might come down to fine margins.

Liudmila Samsonova vs Magda Linette
Head-to-Head: Samsonova 3-0 Linette
After a good North American hard court swing, Liudmila Samsonova has played two bad matches and is yet to win a match at the Asian Swing. Her first-round loss in Beijing has resulted in her dropping outside the Top 20 in the rankings. Magda Linette has been good on clay this year but struggled for consistency on hard courts. Samsonova is not at her best but has performed extremely well against Linette in the past, and hasn’t dropped a set to her. Linette will seek revenge but the surface and one-sided record favors Samsonova.

Mirra Andreeva vs Xiyu Wang
Head-to-Head: Andreeva 1-0 Wang
Mirra Andreeva had an impressive run in Beijing for the second consecutive year. The 17-year-old has been very consistent this season and has hardly taken any bad losses outside of grass. Playing Xiyu Wang on home soil won’t be easy but Andreeva has already beaten the Chinese as a 16-year-old last year and is a better player since then. Wang’s form has also been terrible on hard courts for quite some time now and I can’t see her troubling Andreeva enough.
