Day 2 of the WTA event in Guadalajara won’t feature the top seeds yet and will even have matchups between players outside the Top 100, but it is sure to feature plenty of exciting matches with unpredictable outcomes. With it being the week right after the US Open, several players will be trying to take advantage of the situation to score a rare title at this level and give it their all. We predict all of Tuesday’s matches, split between this and a separate article. Who do you think will win?
WTA Guadalajara Day 2 Predictions
Tatjana Maria vs Ashlyn Krueger
Head-to-head: Krueger 1-0 Maria
Maria had a great run last week, coming very close to winning the Guadalajara Challenger and she is the more accomplished player in general, but Krueger has been playing great lately, with some very nice performance and results during the North American hard court season. At the moment, she is the superior player and on current form she should be able to prevail here.
Prediction: Krueger in 3
Caroline Dolehide vs Martina Trevisan
Head-to-head: Dolehide 2-0 Trevisan
Both players had disappointing performances at the US Open and will be looking to make amends here. They faced each other last year this tournament in the quarterfinals, with Dolehide saving a match point in the second set tiebreak before winning the decider. Another very tight match is to be expected here, but Dolehide is generally the more solid and consistent player and should thus have a slight edge.
Prediction: Dolehide in 3
Alexandra Eala vs Marie Bouzkova
Head-to-head: first meeting
On paper, this is arguably the most one-sided match of the day; while Eala played well in qualifying to reach this stage, Bouzkova is clearly the superior player overall despite his relatively poor form lately after a great run in Washington. Under normal circumstances, Bouzkova should be able to dominate the match and secure a relatively comfortable win to halt her recent bad streak.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 2
