US Open Final Prediction: Jessica Pegula vs Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka in action at the US Open.

The US Open women’s final is set and we are in for a treat of a matchup. Hometown hero Jessica Pegula takes on heavy favorite Aryna Sabalenka. These two women have been the most impressive on hard courts all summer, and now they’ll battle for the crown jewel of the summer season. Will Pegula win her first Major? Will Sabalenka win her second Major this year? We certainly know who the crowd will favor, but will that matter? Our writers share their thoughts on the match. Predicting this match are Ateet Shrivastava, Jordan Reynolds, and Tope Oke. Who do you think will win?

US Open Final Prediction

Jessica Pegula vs Aryna Sabalenka

Ateet:
Jessica Pegula had never reached a Grand Slam semifinals before but now she is in the final of the US Open. She made an inspiring comeback from down a set and a break in the semifinals against Muchova. However, she can’t let Sabalenka gain such lead as the World No.2 is an elite front runner. Sabalenka has dropped just one set en route to the finals but this is going to be her most difficult match. Sabalenka is more experienced in playing these matches and has a brilliant record against the American. I give her the edge.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3

Jordan:
Pegula’s fightback against Karolina Muchova was a great effort. However, she cannot afford to start that slowly against Sabalenka. The world No. 2 did lose from a set up last year against Coco Gauff, but the two-time Australian Open champion is unlikely to cave under pressure again. Pegula has a chance if she serves well and mixes up the pace and direction of her shots. But Sabalenka is unquestionably the best hard-court player in the world when her game flows and she is the favorite to win the US Open title after years of coming close.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2

Tope:
I’ve been fairly confident that Sabalenka was going to win the title in New York and that’s not about to change. She has grown mentally and technically to become arguably the best hardcourts player in the world and her emphatic wins here piercingly illustrate this. Moreso the home crowd advantage Pegula seems to have won’t be enough to stop the experienced Belarusian from claiming her maiden US Open title at the second time of asking.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2
