Diego Schwartzman has won three of his last five matches. Here in New York, Diego fought successfully in the qualifying tournament. Schwarzman has won all three qualifying matches in straight sets. He recently announced that he would retire from professional tennis next February at his home event in Buenos Aires. That being said, this will be his last US Open tournament. Last year in New York, Diego lost his opening match against Rinderknech in straight sets.

According to the bookies, Monfils is the favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. Even though Schwartzman won all of his qualifying matches in straight sets, he still struggled in each one. Monfils showed some great tennis last week, so we believe that he will win here easily.

The American is still trying to find his best form, after being off the court for a long time. In the last two years, Opelka did not compete here in New York, due to his back injury. His last appearance at the US Open was in 2021, where he lost in the 1/8-Finals against Harris in four tight sets.
Lorenzo Musetti has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Cincinnati, Lorenzo lost in the 1/8-Finals against Tiafoe in straight sets. Before that, Musetti defeated Auger-Aliassime in Paris at the Olympic Games for the 3rd place medal as we predicted. Lorenzo is looking to get a solid result here in New York to secure his top 20 spot. Last year in New York, Musetti lost in the opening round against Droguet in five sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Musetti is the favorite in this matchup. Lorenzo is a great clay court specialist, but usually underperformed so far on the hard courts. However, we are not sure if Opelka is 100% fit for a possible five-setter. We believe that Musetti will be a better player on the court, and win this match easily.
That being said, Musetti, covering the games handicap is a value bet.
