ATP Wimbledon quarterfinals
Musetti – Fritz: 10.07.2024 15:30 CEST
H2H: 1-2
Lorenzo Musetti has won four of his last five matches. Two weeks ago, Musetti reached the final in London where he lost against Tommy Paul in straight sets as we predicted. Here at Wimbledon, Lorenzo defeated Lestienne in the first round. Musetti was one set down, but managed to turn the match around by winning three straight sets. After that, Musetti defeated Darderi in five tough sets. Lorenzo was 1-2 down, but once again stayed calm and turned the match around. It was overall a high-quality match. Lorenzo had 66 winners with 44 unforced errors. In the third round, Musetti defeated Comesana in four sets as we predicted. The second and third sets were tiebreaks. Other than that, Musetti dominated in the first and fourth sets. In the 1/8-Finals, Lorenzo defeated Mpetshi Perricard in four sets. Musetti lost the first set, but managed to stay calm and turn the match around. It is kinda surprising that Musetti has reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, on his least favorite surface. However, we have to say that he had luck with the draw. So far in the tournament, Lorenzo faced three players outside the top 50. His only top 50 player was Darderi, who is a clay court specialist. Last year at Wimbledon, Musetti lost against Hurkacz in the third round.
Taylor Fritz has won eight straight matches. Two weeks ago, Fritz won the title in Eastbourne, winning against Purcell in the final. Here at Wimbledon, Taylor won his first round match against O’Connell in easy straight sets. Taylor offered, and saved both breakpoints. After that, in the second round, Taylor defeated Rinderknech in four tight sets. Fritz lost the third set against Arthur, but other than that, Fritz was a way better player than Rinderknech. Fritz defeated Tabilo in straight sets in the 1/8-Finals. He had an almost perfect serving performance, not offering any breakpoints. His toughest and most exciting match was in the quarterfinals against Zverev. Taylor was 0-2 down against Sascha, but managed to turn the match around and win in five tough sets as we predicted. Zverev got injured in the third set, and was limited. However, Fritz played great tennis and won deservingly. So far in his career, Taylor has played four times in the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam. He lost all four of them. This would be his chance to overcome that barrier. Last year at Wimbledon, Fritz lost in the second round against Ymer in five sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Fritz is the big favorite. We believe that his comeback win against Zverev gave him a great confidence boost. This will be his biggest chance to achieve his biggest result at the Grand Slam level. Musetti is a great clay court player, and we believe that this will be his toughest challenge so far in the tournament. We believe that Fritz is a way better grass court player than Musetti, so we believe that he will win easily.
That being said, Fritz covering the games handicap is a value bet.
