French Open Day 1 Predictions
Alison Van Uytvanck vs Tamara Zidansek
Jordan: Zidansek has struggled for form all season but she got three good wins in qualifying to reach this stage. Van Uytvanck’s results have been mixed on the ITF Circuit since coming back from a long injury. The Belgian’s career has been the better of the two, but right now Zidansek’s momentum from the three matches she won might prove decisive.
Prediction: Zidansek in 3
Glenys: Van Uytanck has struggled for form leading up to Roland Garros, the Belgian has either not qualified or lost early in ITF level events. Zidansek made the quarter final in Slovakia and qualified here in France.

Rebeka Sramkova vs Amanda Anisimova
Ateet: Clay is not the best surface for Alison Van Uytvanck despite reaching the quarterfinals in 2015, while Tamara Zidansek has been a former semifinalist at the French Open and plays her best tennis on dirt. Zidansek has already played three matches in the qualifiers which gives her the edge.
Prediction: Zidansek in 2
Jordan: Sramkova is in strong form, reaching the Round of 16 at the Italian Open, before qualifying for the main draw in Paris. Anisimova has not played much since her comeback to the sport but there have been flashes of the brilliance she is capable of. It is tough to know what level the American will be at. Nonetheless, she plays her best tennis on clay and her firepower makes her a slight favourite.
Prediction: Anisimova in 3
Glenys: Sramkova made the fourth round in the Italian Open and qualified here with some very close matches. Anisimova has not progressed as far, losing in the first round in the last two events entered. This should put the qualifier through to the next round
Prediction: Sramkova in 3
Katerina Siniakova vs Dalma Galfi
Ateet: On her best day Amanda Anisimova has the potential to beat almost anyone but she has struggled with injuries in the last two years which has kept her out of the tour. Rebecca Sramkova is the more in form player as she reached the fourth round in Rome and has had a decent year. The fact that she has played three matches in qualifying also helps her cause
Prediction: Sramkova in 3
Jordan: Siniakova has a very strong record in first rounds this year, with the following round usually being her problem. She is very solid in all parts of the game and there are no weaknesses to exploit. Galfi is a capable player on clay but is unlikely to be good enough to overcome the Czech.
Prediction: Siniakova in 3
Glenys: Siniakova is seeded here at the French Open. After claiming a WTA 125 title in Spain, the Czech has not had much success. Galfi has not had much better of a clay season either. However, the Hungarian has made the draw as a lucky loser, after the loss in the final qualifying round. Galfi wil be looking for vindication.
Prediction: Galfi in 3

Tatjana Maria vs Clara Tauson
Ateet: Neither player has displayed any kind of great results this year which separates them in this match up. Clara Tauson has reached further in this tournament despite having less chances so I give her the edge in this match.
Prediction: Tauson in 3
Jordan: There is a very nice clash of styles for fans to enjoy in this match. Maria’s slices and craftiness vs Tauson’s big serving and powerful groundstrokes. This matchup is probably slightly worse for Tauson. She can become inconsistent if the rallies become long and Maria is adept at making that happen regularly.
Prediction: Maria in 2
Glenys: Maria and Tauson have met once on tour in Warsaw last season. The German dominated Dane and took the match in straight sets. Tauson made the second round at the Italian Open after coming through qualifying. She will be hoping to at least match that here in Paris.
Prediction: Maria in 2
