For the second year running, the final at the ATP 250 in Lyon will see a home favorite meet an Argentine. French youngster Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard will be aiming to replicate Arthur Fils’ exploits here last year to claim the title over another Argentine, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who is also looking to win his first title at the third time of asking.
We at LWOT offer our prediction for what promises to be a truly dramatic finale.
ATP Lyon Final Prediction
Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard took full advantage of his wild card opportunity in Lyon to make it to the final, dropping just a single set. Winning an ATP title in his third main draw appearance will be a remarkable achievement for the French youngster who has already secured three Challenger titles this year in as many attempts.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry has been knocking on his maiden title for a while now and this appears to be his chance to unlock it. While he disappointed during the South American clay swing, he has redeemed himself with some scintillating performances in Lyon. He must surely seize what looks like a perfect opportunity against a player who is outside the Top 100.
Interestingly, both championship matches Etcheverry previously lost were to local players. Nicolas Jarry in the 2023 final in Santiago and Frances Tiafoe a few weeks later in Houston. He is up against another home favourite who will not just be looking to bag his maiden title, but to make it consecutive wins for French players after Arthur Fils’s triumph here last year. Incidentally Fils defeated another Argentine, Francisco Cerundolo.
Both players are extremely motivated heading into what promises to be a dramatic encounter. However, if Etcheverry can maintain an immunity to the thunderous French support, he will win his first ATP title. The Argentine has simply been the best player in Lyon.
Prediction: Ectcheverry in 3
