WTA Brisbane Day 3 Predictions Including Daria Saville vs Dayana Yastremska

Dayana Yastremska in action ahead of the WTA Cluj-Napoca Open.

The first round of the 2024 WTA Brisbane International will be wrapped up on Monday with eight singles matches remaining. Will the crowd favorite Daria Saville be able to take out Dayana Yastremska? Can Zeynep Sonmez continue her stunning run from the qualifying draw? Who do you think will come out on top? We also look at the rest of the day’s matches––including Naomi Osaka’s return to tennis–in a separate article.

WTA Brisbane Day 3 Predictions

Lucia Bronzetti vs Ashlyn Krueger

Head-to-head: Krueger 1-0

Ashlyn Krueger recently defeated Lucia Bronzetti in Beijing qualifying, but it was a tight three-set battle. What the Italian can sometimes lack in skill, she makes up for in grit and determination. Krueger’s upside is definitely higher though and she’s already inside the top 100 at the age of 19. With the form aspect being pretty much irrelevant after the off-season break, it seems like the way to go here is with the up-and-comer, who’s slowly gathering up experience to attack the top of the sport sometime soon.

Hailey Baptiste vs Danielle Collins

Head-to-head: First meeting

Danielle Collins can be such a mixed bag, but there’s no denying she’s had some phenomenal performances in the Australian summer in the past. Towards the end of last season she also seemed to be picking up her form a bit, finishing on a good note as well with a strong showing at the Billie Jean King Cup finals. The peak game is still there and if she’s launching the backhand rockets, there’s not much that Hailey Baptiste will be able to do about it.

Zeynep Sonmez vs Clara Burel

Head-to-head: First meeting

Zeynep Sonmez was probably the most impressive performer of the qualifying draw, coming up with two massive upsets over Heather Watson and Aliaksandra Sasnovich. She’ll pretty much need to do the same here as she’s facing Clara Burel, who claimed the title at one of the December WTA 125 indoor events. The Frenchwoman has long been one of the players on the verge of a breakthrough and maybe this is it. Her forehand can spray errors, but it’s a very dangerous shot that outweighs anything in Sonmez’s game.

Daria Saville vs Dayana Yastremska

Head-to-head: Saville 2-0

It’s been a while since they last played each other and it’s a matchup with such a clear contrast of styles. Dayana Yastremska’s powerful ball-striking will have to stand up to the disrupting that Daria Saville can produce and the Ukrainian didn’t manage to survive it on two previous occasions. It seems like the momentum is with her now though. She was playing quite well in the December WTA 125 indoor swing and has already scored two dominant victories in the qualifying here, which should really help her out.
