WTA San Diego Quarterfinal Predictions Including Danielle Collins vs Caroline Garcia

Danielle Collins National Bank Open

Day 4 at the WTA event in San Diego will see the four quarterfinal matches being played. With the #1 seed Ons Jabeur eliminated, the draw is even more wide open than before, with every player left aiming to win a title the week after the US Open, potentially taking advantage of a weaker draw than usual given the circumstances. Caroline Garcia is now the highest seed left, but she’s far from a clear favorite to win the title.

WTA San Diego Day 4 Predictions

Anastasia Potapova vs Sofia Kenin

Head-to-head: first meeting

It’s almost hard to believe Kenin is a former Slam champion given the level she’s shown since that triumph, but we know that she has that kind of potential and can unleash it at any given time. With that said, Potapova is clearly the superior player right now and will be extremely motivated after upsetting Ons Jabeur in the previous round. She should be able to continue her run here.

Prediction: Potapova in 2

Barbora Krejcikova vs Beatriz Haddad Maia

Head-to-head: Krejcikova 2-0 Haddad Maia

Haddad Maia has had a great run so far this week, but on this surface Krejcikova should have a very clear edge and win with relative ease, as happened when the pair faced each other in similar conditions at this time of the year last year in Tallin.

Prediction: Krejcikova in 2

Maria Sakkari vs Emma Navarro

Head-to-head: first meeting

Sakkari is currently the highest ranked player left in the draw at #9, but her 2023 season has been really disappointing, especially at Grand Slam level. She will be desperate to end the season strong to add some shine to an otherwise lackluster 2023. She has a really good draw here and on paper she should have a very clear edge over Navarro in this round.

Prediction: Sakkari in 2

Danielle Collins vs Caroline Garcia

Head-to-head: Collins 2-0 Garcia

Garcia had a great end of 2022 that made many predict a big 2023 season, but it hasn’t really materialized. Collins also flattered to deceive after her spectacular Australian Open 2022 run to the final. Both players are looking to have a big week here to get their careers back on track and it’s Collins who has so far shown to have the edge as far as head to head goes. She might well prevail again here.

Prediction: Collins in 3
