The Slam season might be over after the US Open, but the WTA Tour never stops and another exciting tournament is expected this week in San Diego with Ons Jabeur heading a pretty strong field. Day 1 will see a lot of American players in action, as well as some high ranked players like World #15 Belinda Bencic. It should be a day filled with tight and exciting matches. Alycia Parks vs Anastasia Potapova
Head-to-head: first meeting
Both players lost in the first round of the US Open and will be looking to make amends for that here in San Diego. It should be a very tight and exciting match between two young 22-year-old players who still seem to be rising and climbing up the rankings. It should mostly come down to form and execution on the day as both players are on very similar levels overall.

Katie Volynets vs Clervie Ngounoue
Head-to-head: first meeting
This should be a very tight and exciting battle between two young Americans. It should be a very tight match, with fine details deciding the outcome. At this point in their respective careers, Volynets should theoretically have the edge as the older and more experienced player of the two. Ngounoue’s time will surely come in the future, but at this point she most likely doesn’t have what it takes to make serious at WTA main tour level events.

Belinda Bencic vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich
Head-to-head: Bencic 1-1 Sasnovich
The previous two matchups between the pair were split, but Bencic has improved considerably and is arguably in the best moment of her career, certainly in terms of consistent performances. Her first round here isn’t exactly easy but she is, in any case, a very clear favorite to make it into the second round.
