Iga Swiatek is a three-time French Open champion.

Iga Swiatek will try to claim her first WTA Tour title in Poland on the freshly-built hard courts in Warsaw. Her first opponent en route to the title is Nigina Abduraimova. Can the Uzbek present a threat to the World No. 1?

WTA Warsaw Day 2 Predictions

Linda Fruhvirtova vs Lucrezia Stefanini

Head-to-head: First meeting

Outside of a couple of events, it just hasn’t been a good year for Linda Fruhvirtova. Her game is still rather underdeveloped when it comes to facing top opposition and she’s had to endure some brutal blowouts. This looks like a winnable opportunity for her though. Lucrezia Stefanini’s quirky style comes along on the hard courts pretty decently, but most WTA Tour opponents are able to overcome it. Fruhvirtova really needs this win and she’ll need to play better than she has of late to get it.
Prediction: Fruhvirtova in 3

Claire Liu vs Yue Yuan

Head-to-head: First meeting

Claire Liu had a very disappointing clay season in the spring, which was a surprise given her usual amazing records on the surface. The American picked herself up though in the past two weeks, but will now have to transition to hard courts very quickly. Fortunately for her, Yue Yuan hasn’t played since Wimbledon, so she also won’t be in an amazing match rhythm. Liu is the more talented player and should convert this opportunity with the added confidence from the last couple of events.
Prediction: Liu in 2

Iga Swiatek vs Nigina Abduraimova

Head-to-head: First meeting

Iga Swiatek is back playing at home again. Last year, she went out to Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals. The event was held on clay back then and while that’s usually her favorite surface, it makes a lot more sense for her to play in Warsaw schedule-wise now. The fresh hard courts seem to be pretty slow too and should react to Swiatek’s topspin really well. Nigina Abduraimova just shouldn’t present a threat, especially with her 0-9 record against Top 50 opposition.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
