Day 5 of Wimbledon usually means all our women’s matches would be third round matches, but because of the rain this week we still have Round 2 matches as well. In fact, there are 18 women’s matches on Friday’s schedule. We’ve already predicted some of them, as we expected to see them on Day 4 (including Wimbledon Day 4 Women’s Predictions Including Aryna Sabalenka vs Varvara Gracheva and Ons Jabeur vs Zhuoxuan Bai). We have predictions for 13 more matches now, though, split between four articles. In addition to this article, our other articles feature Petra Kvitova vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Elina Svitolina vs Sofia Kenin, and Victoria Azarenka vs Daria Kasatkina. Predicting these matches are Jim Smith, Shane Black, and Yesh Ginsburg. Who do you think will advance?
Wimbledon Day 5 Women’s Predictions
Jule Niemeier vs Dalma Galfi
Jim:
This could probably go either way. But Dalma Galfi played (marginally) the better tennis in the first round and probably has a higher ceiling than the German (also marginally). Expect a close contest.
Prediction: Galfi in 3
Shane:
Jule Niemeier and Dalma Galfi pulled off tight three-set victories to make their way to Round 2. Neither player has much history at Wimbledon, but I favor the German’s ability to hold her nerve in tense moments. Despite the poor form to start the season, I see her pushing her way into Round 3.
Prediction: Niemeier in 3
Yesh:
One of these women will be in the third round of Wimbledon, thanks to upsets and a friendly draw. Niemeier hasn’t been great recently, but has far more potential, especially on grass.

Lesia Tsurenko vs Ana Bogdan
Jim:
Ana Bogdan had to weather an early storm to get the better of Alycia Parks but dug in before ultimately running out a comfortable winner in the third. Lesia Tsurenko, however, has far more experience than Parks and is in form herself.
Prediction: Tsurenko in 3
Shane:
Ana Bogdan overcame a set deficit to get by Alycia Parks in Round 2. She is having a career-best season on the grass, posting a 7-2 record this season. Lesya Tsurenko has always been a solid grass-court player. This match should be tight, but I see Bogdan raising her level when it matters most.
Prediction: Bogdan in 3
Yesh:
Upsets galore in this section of the draw, and one of these women will reach the fourth round. Bogdan has been more impressive this week, but Tsurenko has more upside and experience.

Iga Swiatek vs Petra Martic
Jim:
Iga Swiatek may not have been considered one of the real favourites at Wimbledon thanks to a indifferent record on the grass, but she has looked sharp so far. Petra Martic will be, at least in theory, a tougher test than Sara Sorribes Tormo or Zhu Lin, but as Swiatek has lost six games so far, it’s still a test she should pass with flying colors.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
Shane:
Grass might not be Iga Swiatek’s best surface, but she has still dominated her opponents this season on the grass courts. Petra Martic took six sets to win her first two matches. Swiatek will be able to push her around the court. Her current consistency is too strong.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
Yesh:
Swiatek slipped on the grass last year, but she shows no signs of doing the same so far this tournament. If she falls from her best then Martic can challenge her, but I don’t see it.
