Davis Cup Predictions: Sweden vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

Mikael Ymer in action ahead of the ATP Stockholm Open.

Sweden and Bosnia & Herzegovina will face this weekend in the Davis Cup World Group qualifiers in Stockholm. There might not be any top ranked players in either side, but both nations will be fielding some very good players and really fancy their chances to advance in what should be a very tight tie.

Davis Cup Predictions: Sweden vs Bosnia

Mikael Ymer vs Mirza Basic

Head-to-head: Basic 1-0 Ymer

Basic’s win came last year in the Marrakech qualifiers and despite the huge gap in ranking he certainly has the ability to beat Ymer again. The Swede had a good run last week, reaching the final in a Challenger, only losing to David Goffin in his home country of Belgium, but he’s notoriously inconsistent and could well have a let down here in Davis Cup.

Elias Ymer vs Damir Dzumhur

Head-to-head: first meeting

Another match that should be very tight. Ymer is inconsistent and Dzumhur certainly has the talent to win here. He’s a former World #23 and is likely to climb back up the rankings soon; his current ranking of #197 is certainly not reflective of his ability or level of threat.

Mikael Ymer vs Damir Dzumhur

Head-to-head: Dzumhur 1-0 Ymer

This is the match between, on paper, the best player of each team so it could well be decisive. Their one previous meeting was in 2016 on clay so it’s hardly relevant here, but Dzumhur certainly has an excellent chance despite the gap in ranking. Playing at home might well give Ymer the edge he needs to win this potentially decisive rubber and qualify Sweden to the next round.

Elias Ymer vs Mirza Basic

Head-to-head: first meeting

Just like every singles rubber in this tie, this one should be extremely tight. It could potentially be a dead rubber, but it could also be the decisive rubber of this tie. Given their current levels and home advantage, Ymer might have a slight edge but it’s definitely very close to call.
Prediction: Ymer in 3
