Stan Wawrinka in action at the United Cup.

Day six at the United Cup will feature plenty of exciting high level action, with several top 10 players in action, and as always we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Maria Sakkari vs Elise Mertens and Casper Ruud vs Matteo Berrettini. But who will come out on top?

United Cup Day 6 Predictions

USA vs Germany

Jessica Pegula vs Laura Siegemund

Head-to-head: Siegemund 1-0 Pegula

Laura Siegemund might have the head-to-head lead, but that match happened almost 12 years ago when Jessica Pegula was still a teenager. She’s now 28 and is in the best moment of her career, ranked #3 in the world and hoping to have a great 2023 season with maybe a breakthrough at Grand Slam level (where she’s yet to reach a semifinal, having lost in the quarterfinals at three of the four Slams in 2022). But as disappointing as those defeats were, she should still have more than enough to get past Siegemund.

Prediction: Pegula in 2

Frances Tiafoe vs Oscar Otte

Head-to-head: first meeting

On grass this could be a very interesting match, with Oscar Otte being something of a specialist on the surface, but on hard court Tiafoe is a very clear favourite. The American had a great end of 2022, almost reaching the final at the US Open, and he will be looking to build on that momentum and have his best season yet in 2023. Otte’s booming serve and big forehand should prevent this from being too one-sided, but it would be a surprise if the German took a set, nevermind the match.

Prediction: Tiafoe in 2

Poland vs Switzerland

Magda Linette vs Jil Teichmann

Head-to-head: Teichmann 1-0 Linette
This should be an extremely tight match, both players are at a similar level and both seem to be in really good shape to start the year. When they faced in 2021, Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann won with relative ease, but it should be much tighter this time around and Magda Linette might even be the slight favourite. She has made a fine start to the season and her counterpunching style should serve her well against the more aggressively minded Teichmann.
Prediction: Linette in 3

Stan Wawrinka vs Hubert Hurkacz

Head-to-head: first meeting

Stan Wawrinka might be ranked #148 right now and a lot closer to the end of his career than the start, but he has shown multiple times in the past year that he has the ability to challenge beat top 10 players even if he doesn’t quite to have the consistency or the stamina to actually compete for titles. Hubert Hurkacz might be the favourite, but Wawrinka will make life very difficult for him and it would not exactly be a surprise if he pulled off the upset here.

Prediction: Wawrinka in 3
