WTA San Diego Open Day 1 Predictions Including Bianca Andreescu vs Ludmilla Samsonova

Bianca Andreescu continues her attempts to return to the top of the game here in San Diego. She joins the likes of Sofia Kenin and Madison Keys in their respective bids to climb back into the upper tier of women’s tennis. However, none will have it easy as the draw is deep for this tournament. We’ve already covered three matches in our first set of WTA San Diego Open predictions, so be sure to take a look at those too. This set features the remaining three matches taking place on Monday, with the Canadian star headlining the set.

WTA San Diego Open Day 1 Predictions

Alison Riske-Amritraj vs Louisa Chirico

Head-to-head: First meeting

Not much to discuss here really. Alison Riske-Amritraj is by far the superior player in this all-American affair. She’s been a mainstay on the tour for years while Louisa Chirico has never managed to perform at that level on a consistent basis. These tournaments are always an opportunity for players like Chirico to make a name for themselves. However, I can’t see that happening here. Riske-Armritraj should win easily enough.

Prediction: Riske-Amritraj in 2

Caroline Garcia vs Danielle Collins Bianca

Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Collins

This promises to be one hell of a match, Danielle Collins ran red hot last year and is searching for that form again in 2022. By contrast, Caroline Garcia has probably been the best player in women’s tennis over the last three months with the exception of Iga Swiatek. Both are aggressive ball strikers and this match should have it’s fair share of winners. Garcia’s serve is superior and should prove a deciding factor in what promises to be a long, well fought affair. Get ready to fly with Caro at least once in San Diego. Given her recent form, we may well be up in the air a while.

Prediction: Garcia in 3

Andreescu vs Ludmilla Samsonova

Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Andreescu

Andreescu is still seeking the level of tennis that saw her pummel the WTA Tour in 2019. Injuries derailed her charge and she hasn’t found her best tennis since. There have been flashes, but she is still plagued by inconsistency and the inability to put matches to bed when she should. That won’t cut it here against Ludmilla Samsonova. The Russian has won three titles in the last two months and is poised to grab a spot at the WTA Finals this year. That motivation, coupled with her form on hard courts in the USA this year, make her the favourite here and I’m backing her to get the job done. Andreescu’s time will come again, just not here and maybe not this year.

Prediction: Samsonova in 2
