Day two at the ATP Seoul Open promises to be an entertaining one with the remaining seven first-round matches all scheduled for Tuesday in the South Korean capital. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Mackenzie McDonald vs Pedro Martinez. But who will secure their spot in the second round?
ATP Seoul Day 2 Predictions
Soon-woo Kwon vs Yunseong Chung
Head-to-head: Chung 3-1 Kwon
Yunseong Chung leads the head-to-head series 3-1, but the last meeting came back in 2018 when Soon-woo Kwon was still ranked about 250th in the world. Since then, the Korean has made a lot of progress, won his maiden ATP title in Nur-Sultan last year and, at least in theory, should be much stronger than his compatriot by now. This is his opportunity to show just how much he’s grown as a player and he should have enough quality to take it.
Prediction: Kwon in 2

Jenson Brooksby vs Tung-Lin Wu
Head-to-head: first meeting
Jenson Brooksby lost in the quarterfinals in San Diego, giving him plenty of time to get to Seoul and avoid the jet lag. The American will be facing Tung-Lin Wu, who grabbed his maiden Challenger title in Tallahassee earlier this year and is enjoying the best season of his career. However, his chances of beating Brooksby don’t seem that high. Wu plays a very high-risk baseline game and even if he’s hitting sharply, the American’s defensive abilities should give him the edge here.
Prediction: Brooksby in 2

Yoshihito Nishioka vs Daniel Evans
Head-to-head: Nishioka 5-0 Evans
The head-to-head between Daniel Evans and Yoshihito Nishioka can really catch you off-guard if you’ve never seen it before with the huge lead Nishioka boasts in their head-to-head rather surprising looking at their respective rankings. The Japanese can be an unpleasant opponent to face, but with his slice and ability to hit off lower-bouncing shots, Evans shouldn’t struggle against him that much. Nishioka has already beaten him twice this year, but both matches went to a deciding set. In theory, there really isn’t enough of an edge in this matchup to justify that sort of a result in their encounters. At some point, Evans should be able to grab a win against the Japanese, who probably has a bit of a psychological edge by now too.
Prediction: Evans in 3
