WTA San Jose Final Prediction – Shelby Rogers vs Daria Kasatkina

Shelby Rogers in action at the WTA San Jose Classic.

The final of the 2022 WTA San Jose Classic will see Shelby Rogers vs Daria Kasatkina contend for the title. The American is often mentioned in the conversation about the best WTA Tour players who haven’t earned a tour-level crown yet. Can she achieve the feat that has eluded her for so long? Who do you think will prevail?

WTA San Jose Final Prediction

Shelby Rogers vs Daria Kasatkina

Head-to-head: Rogers 1-1 Kasatkina

Despite having two Grand Slam quarterfinals on her resume, Shelby Rogers is still lacking a WTA Tour title. She also hasn’t had a chance to achieve that feat in a while. Her last opportunity took place in Rio de Janeiro six years ago when she lost to Francesca Schiavone. The 29-year-old has made her reputation as a giant killer, including three top 10 upsets this year already. One of them came in this very tournament as she took out Maria Sakkari in the second round.

Meanwhile, Daria Kasatkina is on track to have the best season of her career. With the San Jose final, Kasatkina finds herself in the third spot in the Live WTA Race and will soon beat her career-high of World No. 10. However, she’s also yet to grab a title this year, building her ranking mostly on five semifinal appearances (Melbourne, Sydney, Rome, Roland Garros, San Jose). It will be her 10th WTA Tour final, although she’s lost the last two, including in San Jose last year.

While the Russian is certainly amazing at throwing her opponents off-balance, her matchup against Rogers doesn’t seem too pleasant. Kasatkina beat her final opponent at the French Open this year, but on a faster hard court, it should be a much more interesting encounter. Rogers has defeated all her opponents in San Jose in straight sets and has the capabilities to attack the Russian’s weaker second serve. If the opportunity of grabbing a first WTA Tour title won’t cloud her mind too much, this really should be the perfect opportunity for Rogers to finally take it. She’s played like a woman on a mission so far this week.

Prediction: Rogers in 3
