Arianne Hartono vs Viktorija Golubic
Head-to-head: First meeting
Arianne Hartono was in commanding disposition in the qualifying campaign, beating Yuki Naito and Laura Pigossi in straight sets. The Dutchwoman wasn’t afraid to go big on her shots and she’ll need the same kind of attitude here against Viktorija Golubic. The 29-year-old hasn’t played since Wimbledon and might be vulnerable to an early upset here. Rushing her from the baseline will probably be the key if Hartono is to have a serious attempt at winning here. Golubic’s creativity and work on the angles could prevail, but it won’t come easy.

Jesika Maleckova vs Katerina Siniakova
Head-to-head: First meeting
It’s been a career-best season for Jesika Maleckova, who has just qualified for a WTA Tour main draw for only a second time. Does she have enough quality to beat Katerina Siniakova? Probably not, especially as the younger (but more renowned) Czech is coming off a very solid week in Hamburg, where she took out Daria Kasatkina and demolished Laura Pigossi. Siniakova should be able to utilize her variety and beat her solid, but rather basic compatriot.

Maryna Zanevska vs Varvara Gracheva
Head-to-head: Gracheva 2-0
Maryna Zanevska won this tournament last year, but whether that can actually help her in any way is doubtful. In 2021 it was held in Gdynia, before being moved to Warsaw. The Belgian lost to Varvara Gracheva in Dubai this year, but this is a matchup she should enjoy more on clay. She’s also coming off her best week in a while (Hamburg semifinals) and should be desperate to try to defend any of the points she made in Poland last year.
