WTA Hamburg Day 4 Predictions Including Anett Kontaveit vs Rebecca Peterson

Top seeds and in-form players continue to dominate proceedings in Hamburg as we head into the fourth day of main draw action. The likes of Anett Kontaveit and Barbora Krejcikova remain firmly in contention. Joining them and hoping for a second final or title in as many weeks are Aleksandra Krunic and Bernarda Pera respectively. Opportunities are still there for some relatively new and unknown faces and Wednesday promises to be a great day of tennis. With that in mind, let’s get stuck in to this set of WTA Hamburg Day 4 Predictions.

WTA Hamburg Day 4 Predictions

Aleksandra Krunic vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich

Head-to-head: 2 – 0 Krunic

This is a tough ask for #4 seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich. The Belarusian is facing a player in red hot form in Krunic. The Serbian made the final of WTA Budapest last week and has carried that form over to Hamburg. Both players picked up comfortable, straight sets wins over their previous opponents and will like their chances of making the quarterfinals here. Krunic has won their previous two meetings and clearly likes this matchup and for that reason I am going to pick the red hot Serbian to move on here.

Maryna Zanevska vs Alexandra Ignatik

Head-to-head: 2 – 2

These two have met three times since the start of 2020. Somewhat surprisingly, it is Alexandra Ignatik who holds a 2-1 advantage across those three matches. However, Maryna Zanevska is playing some of the best tennis of her life at the moment. In fact, the Belgian climbed 170 places in the rankings over the course of the 2021 season. She has continued that momentum into this year and sits exactly 100 places abover her Romanian opponent here. Ignatik is a decent player but she doesn’t have the level needed to beat Zanevska on clay.

Maria Carle vs Anastasia Potapova

Head-to-head: First meeting

It’s hard to make much of a case for Maria Carle here. The Argentinian has almost no experience at main draw level and is up against a far superior opponent in Anastasia Potapova. The fact that it is being played on clay lends a slight advantage to Carle, though Potapova lifted a title on this surface this year and seems to have grown comfortable with it. Tennis is a strange game and upsets are always possible if you catch the right player having a bad day. However, I can’t see Potapova losing this one.

Bernarda Pera vs Joanne Zuger

Head-to-head: First meeting

Another relatively straightforward call here. Pera won a WTA title last week in Budapest and has shown no signs of fatigue so far in Hamburg. A kind draw means she’s in with a real shout of at least a semifinal appearance. Her opponent here, Joanne Zuger, has little WTA Tour experience and was pushed the distance by Jule Neimeier in her last match. Pera has a higher level on clay than the German and is red hot right now. The American should advance quite comfortably here behind her lethal forehand.

Anett Kontaveit vs Rebecca Peterson

Head-to-head: 2 – 0 Kontaveit

This should be a great match to watch. Six months ago you would have bet your house on Kontaveit winning this. The Estonian was probably the hottest player in tennis before Iga Swiatek made 37 cases for that title now belonging to her. However, Kontaveit has struggled mightily since the end of February and has barely any tennis to her name thanks to struggles with COVID-19. That being said, she looked good in her opener and only needs a performance like that to set the wheels in motion again. There is little doubt she is a top five talent when everything clicks. Rebecca Peterson is a solid opponent who will demand more from Kontaveit than just spurts of good tennis. However, I think Kontaveit can put enough good runs together to win this match.

Prediction: Kontaveit in 3
