Tuesday sees seven matches played in Hamburg. The likes of Anett Kontaveit and Krejcikova will be keen to establish themselves as deserving favourites. Bernarda Pera and Aleksandra Krunic, finalists in Budapest last week, are among those keen to upset the established order as we head into the third day of action. Four of the seven matches are covered in the first set of WTA Hamburg day 3 predictions. With that in mind, let’s dive in to the remaining three.
WTA Hamburg Day 3 Predictions
Jule Neimeier vs Joanne Zuger
Head-to-head: First meeting
Jule Neimeier has had an incredible couple of weeks as far as her career goes. A challenger title in Makarska and a main draw win at Wimbledon have the young German on the cusp of breaking into the top 100. She’d be there already if Wimbledon hadn’t had its ranking points stripped by the ATP and WTA over their controversial Russia ban. Here she takes on Joanne Zuger, a talented young Swiss player who did well to come through qualifying for this tournament. Those extra reps on these courts are certainly an advantage, but Neimeier is the better player and playing better tennis. She should have enough to edge a close match.

Andrea Petkovic vs Misaki Doi
Head-to-head: 2 – 1 Petkovic
The Petkovic shuffle was in full flow after the German stormed to victory against compatriot Tamara Korpatsch on Monday. We may well see it a second time in as many days here as Petkovic looks to get the better of Misaki Doi. The pair met earlier this year on clay in Madrid and Petkovic won comfortably there. Doi is a good player, but far more at home on hard courts. She is also not quite at Petkovic’s level, even if that level is slightly lower since her return from a myriad of injuries over the years. Expect a good match, but one that Petkovic should emerge from relatively unscathed.

Barbora Krejcikova vs Magda Frech
Head-to-head: First meeting
Magda Frech looked in good form in her opening match against Anna Kalinskaya until the Russian withdrew. However, that is probably as far as things go for the Pole in Hamburg. She faces a determined Krejcikova here who looks ready to put a poor start to the year behind her in the second half of 2022. The Czech was efficient and exciting to watch in her dismissal of Suzan Lamens in the last round, dropping just six games and needing just 85 minutes to pick up the win. Expect a similar result here as Frech is a good player but not of the level of Krejcikova. The former French Open champion is a real contender in Hamburg and should still be on the court fighting for the title come the weekend.
