WTA Chicago Day 2 Predictions Including Ann Li vs Garbine Muguruza

Garbine Muguruza in action ahead of the WTA Chicago Classic.

Day two at the WTA Chicago Classic is another action packed day of tennis with 14 matches being played in total. Monday featured some great contests between top players and Tuesday should be no different. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Danielle Collins vs Misaki Doi, Victoria Azarenka vs Zhang Shuai and Amanda Anisimova vs Viktorija Golubic. But who will advance?

WTA Chicago Day 2

Harriet Dart vs Beatriz Haddad Maia

Head-to-head: Dart 1-0 Haddad Maia

Harriet Dart won their only meeting on grass two years ago. However, the Briton is only in the main draw as a lucky loser and is the lower0ranked player of the two. This should still be a tight match and will probably go the distance, but the more experienced Haddad Maia is currently playing at a slightly higher level and should have just about enough to edge this one.

Hsieh Su-Wei vs Ons Jabeur

Head-to-head: first meeting

Both of these players are very crafty and tricky to deal with. Ons Jabeur undoubtedly has the higher level, at least at the moment, but will also be playing at a slight disadvantage as she hasn’t played on these courts yet. Hsieh Su-wei, in contrast, should be acclimatised to the conditions having opened her campaign at the WTA Chicago Classic with a battling first-round win over the returning Kim Clijsters. Jabeur hasn’t faced Hsieh before and that means she may struggle to get a read on her game early on as a result. However, Jabeur has enough patience and skill to navigate this test. Expect the Tunisian to come through it relatively comfortably.

Ann Li vs Garbine Muguruza

Head-to-head: first meeting

Ann Li won her first round match against Donna Vekic relatively comfortably, adding to the Croatian’s considerable woes. She now faces a sterner test of her abilities in the shape of Garbine Muguruza. The Spaniard, who enjoyed a first-round bye, has been one of the better players on the tour this year and has a game well suited to these hard courts – even if she has not always delivered in North America. The young American certainly has the game to win this, but if Muguruza is able to get into a groove the Spaniard should have enough power to hit through Li and into the round of 16.

Prediction: Muguruza in 3
