WTA Montreal Day 3 Predictions
Maria Sakkari vs Veronika Kudermetova
This should be a very good match. Sakkari has been in incredible form this year, even after her French Open disappointment. Kudermetova won her first career tournament on the green clay of Charleston earlier this year. She’s also improving pretty steadily, but she doesn’t quite have the power to get past Sakkari yet this year.
Prediction: Sakkari in 2
Amanda Anisimova vs Oceane Dodin
Anisimova has not been the same player since her father’s tragic passing. She is still wildly talented and will put it all together someday, but the American hasn’t been at her Grand Slam-winning potential since then. It’s understandable, but it’s also true. Dodin, meanwhile, has never quite put together the talent she showcased years ago. Anisimova will win, and hopefully she finds her top level soon.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2
Jessica Pegula vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
What an absolute shame that this is a second-round matchup. Pegula is in the midst of the year of her life, while Pavlyuchenkova is finally producing the results we all expected of her years ago. I’ll go with the American on the quicker hard courts, but this should be a great match–one worthy of a late-round match.
Prediction: Pegula in 3
Johanna Konta vs Elina Svitolina
Konta was at the top of her game a few years ago, but hasn’t quite found that level in a while. We’ve seen flashes of it, but never anything consistent. Svitolina, meanwhile, is one of the most talented players in the game, though she struggles on the bigger stages. Still, coming off an Olympic Bronze Medal, I think the newly-married Ukrainian is ready for another big result. She has the game to outplay Konta, and the mindset too.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2
