This will be their first meeting and both have been coming in to this tournament and match with similar form. Sharma is the seventh seed here this week and had a tough three-setter against Italian Lucrezia Stefanini in her first match. The Australian will arguably need to play a lot better if she wants to advance here, but expect her to up her level against Vikhlyantseva.

A battle of the WTA youngsters in this match up. Danilovic, 20, had a good run in Hungary last week, making the quarterfinals as a qualifier so is coming in with some confidence this week in Palermo. Zavatska, 21, on the other hand, has been up and down this year, so we don’t really know how she is going to play coming into this match. Furthermore, this is also their second meeting with Danilovic winning their first and only encounter in three sets. Expect a similar result with Danilovic pulling through.

Francesca Di Lorenzo vs Shuai Zhang
Head-to-head: First meeting
Before her first round win in Palermo, Di Lorenzo was on a seven-match losing streak. Zhang, who is the fourth seed here this week, has not had the best season of her career, so it will be an interesting battle as both players are not in-form. But expect Zhang to pull through.

Danielle Collins vs Maddison Inglis
Head-to-head: Collins leads 1-0
Collins, the second seed here this week, had a decent run at the WTA Hungarian Open last week, reaching the semifinals. The American will be looking to extend her good run of form here in Palermo as she plays Australian Inglis. It will be a tough match for Inglis against an in-form Collins as the American should come through.
