ATP Umag Day 4 Predictions
Daniel Altmaier vs Gianluca Mager
Head to head – First Meeting
This should be a close contest between the two. Daniel Altmaier has played well this month by winning a Challenger event and qualifying here. The German played competitively against the higher ranked Corentin Moutet and unfortunately the Frenchman had to retire after the second set. Lots of positives for Altmaier to take into this clash against the Italian Gianluca Mager.
Mager is seeded eighth here and had to regroup quickly in his first round after dropping the first set 6-0. The Italian is a feisty competitor and will need all his competitive spirit to thwart the challenge of the German. Expect plenty of long rallies and Altmaier to win a set but Mager should be the one winning this.
Prediction: Mager in 3
Dusan Lajovic vs Bernabe Zapata Miralles
Head to head – First Meeting
The second seed is in action for the first time here in Umag, and it’s a winnable match for Dusan Lajovic. The Serb usually plays pretty well during this time of the year and he won here in Umag in 2019.
Bernabe Zapata Miralles is an exciting talent and like many Spaniards can play pretty well on clay. The Spaniard defeated a good opponent in Pablo Cuevas but Lajovic should prove to be a level above Cuevas. Expect a strong start from Lajovic.
Prediction: Lajovic in 2
Carlos Alcaraz vs Andrej Martin
Head to head – First Meeting
This tournament provides us with another opportunity to view the precocious talent that is Carlos Alcaraz. The 18 year old Spaniard won a highly entertaining match against Lucas Pouille and Andrej Martin should be a relatively easier opponent to handle.
The Slovak hasn’t played at a high level post Wimbledon and he’s likely to struggle against a relentless ball striker like the Spaniard. Alcaraz should get the victory here.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 2
Radu Albot vs Filip Krajinovic
Head to head – Krajinovic 1-1 Albot
Filip Krajinovic is a serious title contender here considering his performance in the recently concluded German Open. The Serb reached the final in Hamburg, beating the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas en route. Krajinovic is perfectly capable of making full use of a less stacked draw like the one here in Umag to nab a well deserved title this year.
His title shot begins against an easy opponent in Radu Albot. The Moldovan has been woeful this year in the singles arena and hasn’t won a main draw match for quite some time. Should be an easy win for the Serb.
Prediction: Krajinovic in 2
