Three second-round matches are on the schedule for Wednesday at the 2021 Hamburg European Open with several star names set to take to the court at the ATP Hamburg European Open. There should be plenty of entertaining tennis, but who will reach the last eight?

Philipp Kohlschreiber vs Filip Krajinovic
Head-to-head: first meeting
One might think these two must have bumped into each other somewhere over the course of their careers, but this is in fact the first time Philipp Kohlschreiber and Filip Krajinovic will meet on the court. The German started his season in April and while at first, it looked like his decline took a rapid pace, he managed to up his game and had very solid performances at Roland Garros (third round), and Wimbledon (lost in five sets to Denis Shapovalov).
Kohlschreiber made 11 out of his 18 finals in Germany, and while this exact tournament was never his best, the veteran really excels on home soil. His win over Jaume Munar in the opening round was of really good quality and with Krajinovic not exactly in his top form right now, perhaps that feel-good story run can continue. There’s lots of good tennis left in Kohlschreiber and if the body holds up, anything is possible.

Thiago Seyboth Wild vs Laslo Djere
Head-to-head: first meeting
This could be a really important week for Thiago Seyboth Wild. The talented Brazilian won consecutive matches for just the fourth time this season by coming through the qualifying and made that three in a row for the first time since Aix en Provence Challenger back in September 2020 by beating Nicola Kuhn in the first round. His incredible ceiling was on full display when he took the title at Santiago last year, but ever since he’s been lost mentally and had to fight confidence issues.
Parts of his win over Kuhn were truly excellent, but can he take on such a solid pro as Laslo Djere? The Serbian comes from the school of quiet excellence and while he can’t match his opponent in shot-making, his rallying skills on clay are elite and you just know he’s always going to give a hundred perfect in every single point. The very same cannot be said about Seyboth Wild and the Brazilian will still need to step up to make the quarterfinals.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Dominik Koepfer
Head-to-head: Tsitsipas 1-0 Koepfer
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ form is a huge question mark coming into this one. The Greek has played just one match after reaching the final at Roland Garros, losing in straight sets at Wimbledon to Frances Tiafoe. Coming back to clay should be a good remedy for his woes. He shouldn’t expect an easy win though as Dominik Koepfer is in great form at the moment. The German is a great counter-puncher which should allow him to really test the top seed’s baseline game.
Tsitsipas being out of rhythm gives him a great chance for an upset in front of the home crowd, especially if the Greek won’t be able to get off to a great start. Koepfer is a tricky opponent to face when you’re unsure of your game and unless Tsitsipas looks way more confident than at Wimbledon, he could be going out here.
