WTA Bogota Day 3 predictions Including Saisai Zheng vs Stefanie Voegele

Mubadala Silicon Valley Open Saisai Zheng

A few seeds have struggled early on in Columbia. Two of the  top four are already out in Clara Tauson and arguable tournament favourite Sara Sorribes Tormo. elsewhere Tereza Martincova and Arantxa Rus needed three sets to make the round of 16. Nonetheless, six of the top eight seeds remain. Who moves on to the quarterfinals will be interesting to watch. We take a look at who that should be in our WTA Bogota Day 3 predictions. We also predict the day’s other four matches.

WTA Bogota Day 3 Predictions

Daniela Seguel vs Harmony Tan

Head-to-head: First meeting

Daniela Seguel did well to come through a tough first round test against Tauson. Equally, Tan was impressive in her victory over Mihaela Buzarnescu. Segue is far more comfortable on clay while Tan has the bigger game and greater upside. I think the comfort on the red dirt should prove enough for Seguel, who may end up having a dream week in Bogota if the draw is kind to her.
Prediction: Seguel in 3

Yafan Wang vs Viktoriya Tomova

Head-to-head: First meeting

Wang picked up her first win in eight matches on Monday. Tomova picked up her first in five the following day. Both are short on form and confidence and neither is overly fond of the clay. Wang has the higher ceiling and looked to have played herself into some form after her three set match in the round of 32. The #8 seed should have enough to get through here, but it will be close and will likely be another three setter.
Prediction: Wang in 3

Tamara Zidansek vs Giulia Gatto-Monticone

Head-to-head: First meeting

This should be a pretty straightforward affair for Zidansek. She was mightily impressive in her first round demolition of Anna Kalinskaya and will be looking to make a deep run here. By contrast, Gatto-Monticone snuck through against Astra Sharma but was unconvincing in that match. Zidansek is higher ranked, has the bigger game and looks to be in better form. As such, she should advance here.
Prediction: Zidansek in 2

Saisai Zheng vs Stefanie Voegele

Head-to-head: 2 – 1 Voegele

Both of these players looked decent in their first round matches. Saisai Zheng is still short of matches after not playing for 10 months in 2020. However, the #1 seed played well in her first match and looks the deserved favorite in a weak draw in Bogota. Voegele is a tricky customer and could cause the Chinese player problems if she is on her game. However, Zheng is a great problem solver and has so many tricks in her bag that should prove effective on clay. I expect the touch and variety of Zheng to prove too much for Voegele here.
Prediction: Zheng in 2
