ATP Montpellier Semifinal Predictions Including Egor Gerasimov vs David Goffin

David Goffin at the Australian Open

It’s down to the semifinal round here at ATP Montpellier, and it’s anybody’s trophy really–which is pretty exciting considering we have top seeds and a qualifier in the last four. We preview and predict both the semifinal clashes.

ATP Montpellier Semifinal Predictions

Roberto Bautista Agut vs Peter Gojowczyk

Head to head – Bautista Agut 4-0 Gojowczyk

Peter Gojowczyk has been flying the qualifier flag high so far this week notching up another fine win against Dennis Novak. The German has grown from strength to strength this week and should provide headaches to his semifinal opponent on Saturday.

Roberto Bautista Agut’s game is pretty well suited for the conditions here and he’s making the most out of it. He’ll be relieved that he’ll be facing a qualifier and not a seeded player in the semis but Gojowczyk won’t be going away quietly. Expect an enthralling clash but Bautista Agut should be able to spread the court more often than not as he’s done in their previous four occasions.

The Spaniard was impressive in his quarterfinal battle against Ugo Humbert, and should be well set up to advance further.
Prediction: Bautista Agut in 2

Egor Gerasimov vs David Goffin

Head to head – Gerasimov 1-0 Goffin

A semifinal clash that should go right down to the wire. Egor Gerasimov has played some breathtaking tennis so far and all his wins have come against good players this week. He’s enjoying the fast conditions and his flat groundstrokes seem to gel well with the courts. His toughest test though awaits him in the form of David Goffin. The second seed is eager to get his 2021 campaign on track and this week has been very fruitful so far.

Goffin played his best match of the year when he beat the dangerous Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets. The most telling part of the match was Goffin’s ability to defend off of his second serve. The Belgian from the baseline can go toe to toe with everyone and takes the ball extremely early which enables him to rush his opponents. Gerasimov has played well so far but Goffin looks in good touch and has looked the more consistent of the two. Expect Goffin to just edge it on the back of his superior counter punching abilities.
Prediction: Goffin in 3
