Day 4 at the WTA Adelaide International will feature some of the most exciting crop of young players on the WTA Tour–such as Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, and Belinda Bencic–as we reach the quarterfinal round. We continue with are our daily predictions. Who goes in and who goes out?
WTA Adelaide International Quarterfinal Predictions
Coco Gauff vs Shelby Rogers
Head-to-head: First meeting
Gauff has had a great run here in Adelaide. The 16-year-old came through qualifying and is now in the quarterfinals here. She faces compatriot Shelby Rogers, who like Gauff, has had a great week so far. The 28-year-old American has yet to drop a set in both her matches here and will be looking to continue her great form against Gauff. It should be a close match and a three-setter, with Rogers causing an upset here to advance to the semifinals.
Prediction: Rogers in 3
Belinda Bencic vs Storm Sanders
Head-to-head: First meeting
Storm Sanders was impressive in her victory against the seventh seed Yulia Putintseva in her round of 16 match and will now be facing the second seed, Belinda Bencic, in her next match. The talented 23-year-old Swiss had a very straightforward victory against Misak Doi in her first match and looked dangerous on all wings. Expect Sanders to come out swinging with the home crowd backing her and possibly even nicking a set off Bencic, but the Swiss should eventually pull through and advance to the next round.
Prediction: Bencic in 3
Anastasija Sevastova vs Jil Teichmann
Head-to-head: First meeting
This will be a difficult one to predict as both players are playing well and have a similar ranking. Sevastova, ranked #56, beat both Caroline Garcia and Christina McHale in straight sets. On the other hand, Teichmann, ranked #61, beat Kristina Mladenovic in straight sets, and then beating the sixth seed Qiang Wang in a three setter. It really is a coin toss in terms of who wins this match, but with Teichmann reaching the quarterfinals in the Phillip Island Trophy last week, she is the more consistent player in terms of results, and should string out a victory.
Prediction: Teichmann in 2
Danielle Collins vs Iga Swiatek
Head-to-head: First meeting
Collins caused a massive upset victory here in Adelaide by knocking out World No.1 and home favourite Ash Barty in straight sets Wednesday. Can she back her massive victory up and cause back-to-back victories by beating the reigning Roland Garros champion? That is the big question. Time after time, we have seen players unable as they are still experiencing a “hangover” from their big win; because of this, we have to give the win to Swiatek.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
