David Goffin at the Australian Open

It’s going to be an exciting Day 3 at Montpellier. First round action continues along side second round clashes as well. There are three R32 and three R16 matches scheduled. We preview and predict all the six clashes. The Round of 16 matches are in this article, with the Round of 32 matches in the other.

ATP Montpellier Day 3 Predictions

Tallon Griekspoor vs Ugo Humbert

Head to head – First Meeting

Tallon Griekspoor notched a fine win against Marcos Giron in three sets and that should put him in good stead for the Round of 16. Unfortunately for him, he now takes on Ugo Humbert who was serving exceptionally well and is a threat to anybody here at Montpellier. Expect Griekspoor to make it interesting but Humbert carries too much firepower from the back of the court and the Frenchman’s serve should be able to get him the win.
Prediction: Humbert in 2

Sebastian Korda vs Lorenzo Sonego

Head to head – First Meeting

An unmissable second round clash, this. Both young guns have plenty to prove and that should make this match a highly entertaining affair. Sebastian Korda looked red hot in dispatching Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and the American looked at ease with the conditions here in Montpellier. Lorenzo Sonego had the match in his grasp but lost his serve serving at 6-5 in the second set. The Italian regrouped well though to take it 6-1 in the third. Extremely tough to choose between the two but the reassuring way in which Korda played suggests to me he can win this match.
Prediction: Korda in 3

David Goffin vs Benjamin Bonzi

Head to head – First Meeting

David Goffin is seeded two here but he’ll quickly need to adapt to the courts here because his section of the draw isn’t an easy one to navigate. The Belgian’s season so far has been disappointing after his semifinal run in Antalya. Two first round defeats have followed and a third looks likely if he’s slow to adjust. Benjamin Bonzi is playing well in the Challenger tournaments this year and his win over Lucas Pouille was a well deserved one. Expect a thrilling clash with Bonzi giving his all but Goffin should be able to draw on his experience and regroup in the third set to clinch the match.
Prediction: Goffin in 3
