Wimbledon Day 3 Men’s Predictions Including Robin Haase vs Milos Raonic

Milos Raonic

Big servers Kevin Anderson and Milos Raonic have found success at Wimbledon in years past, and are now seeking third round berths by defeating Janko Tipsarevic and Robin Haase in their respective 2nd round matches. David Gertler and Yesh Ginsburg offer their predictions, we also have predictions for matches featuring Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, and Feliciano Lopez.

Kevin Anderson vs Janko Tipsarevic

David: Kevin Anderson will look to continue his winning ways at Wimbledon as he takes on Janko Tipseravic. Anderson made the final here last year and was totally dominant in the first round, only losing 9 games to Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Janko Tipseravic survived a five set clash with Yoshito Nishioka in the first round. These two are tied 1-1 in the head to head, but Anderson is considerably better and Tipseravic is considerably worse compared to when Tipseravic beat Anderson in 2013. Anderson clearly loves the grass courts of Wimbledon, and I look for him to get a comfortable win in this one. Anderson in 3

Yesh: Anderson looked solid in his return to grass. That should be more than enough to blow by Janko Tipsarevic, who is likely on the last legs of his career. Anderson in 3

Daniil Medvedev vs Alexei Popyrin

David: A trip to the third round is at stake as Daniil Medvedev battles Alexei Popyrin. Medvedev had a great run to the semifinals at Queen’s Club, and continue his winning ways with a straight sets win over Paolo Lorenzi in the first round. Popyrin did well to qualify for Wimbledon, and beat Pablo Carreno-Busta in straight sets in the first round. Popyrin’s aggression is rewarded on grass, but Medvedev’s flat groundstrokes and impressive defending on grass should see him through to the third round. Prediction: Medvedev in 4

Yesh: Medvedev looked vulnerable against clay courter Paolo Lorenzi, while Popyrin finished strong against Pablo Carreno Busta. This match really could go either way, as both rising youngsters have lots of talent but can be prone to inconsistent moments. Medvedev in 4

Ugo Humbert vs Marcel Granollers

David: Ugo Humbert clashes with Marcel Granollers with a trip to the third round of Wimbledon on the line. Granollers easily beat Antalya winner Lorenzo Sonego in the first round, while Ugo Humbert advanced to the second round when Gael Monfils retired in the third set. Granollers qualified for the tournament and has not lost a set so far. Humbert’s huge lefty game is generally hit-or-miss on grass, and Granollers’ variety should frustrate him. Granollers wins. Granollers in 4

Yesh: Humbert lucked out that Gael Monfils’ ankle started acting up when Humbert was about to lose. He gets even luckier to face Marcel Granollers, an aging Spaniard who would much prefer playing on clay. Humbert in 3

Robin Haase vs Milos Raonic

David; Milos Raonic will take on Robin Haase in the second round of Wimbledon. Raonic, a former finalist at the All England Club, made quick work of Prajnesh Gunneswaran, winning in straight sets. Haase only dropped five games in a straightforwards win over Jozef Kovalik. While Haase was very impressive in his first round win, he has not been consistent enough on the grass, and Raonic’s big game will be hard for him to handle. Raonic wins. Raonic in 4

Yesh: Robin Haase can just beat the stuffing out of a tennis ball. That’s useful on a grass court. His unfortunate tendency to hit lots of errors is not. Against Milos Raonic, who eased his way into the tournament against Prajnesh Gunneswaran, that’s not good at all. Raonic in 3
