Three of the top four seeds are already gone, with the biggest surprise of them all being Alexander Zverev knocked out by Jaume Munar. Four men’s quarterfinals will be played on Day 5 of the 2019 Grand Prix Hassan II.
ATP Marrakech Quarterfinal Predictions
Taro Daniel vs Gilles Simon
Head to head: First meeting
The Frenchman looked very convincing in his first two matches. He also played a lot more high-profile matches in the last months and is generally a much more experienced player than Daniel. The Japanese had a very off set against Menendez Maceiras, and this level just probably won’t cut it against Simon.
Prediction: Simon in 2
Pablo Andujar vs Jiri Vesely
Head to head: Vesely 2-0
The Spaniard ought to be running on his last legs at this point, having won 12 matches during the last 15 days. However, he managed to defeat Federico Delbonis and Philipp Kohlschreiber after saving set points in the first set of both matches. Despite Vesely leading the head to head, they’ve never met on clay, and we’re going to go with the three-time champion at this event Pablo Andujar to somehow find a way to win again.
Prediction: Andujar in 2
Benoit Paire vs Jaume Munar
Head to head: Paire 1-0
As we stated before, almost every Paire match is a coin toss. Can you really predict anything here? Munar is playing his first tournament after a while and he just scored the biggest win of his career over Alexander Zverev. Paire this season has been an extreme roller coaster. We’ll take Munar just because of his consistency, but this is nothing more than an educated guess.
Prediction: Munar in 3
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Lorenzo Sonego
Head to head: First meeting
It seems like Tsonga is finally back on the right track. His win over Kyle Edmund in the second round certainly meant a lot to him, and the big forehand is starting to wreak havoc on the opponents just as it did a few seasons ago. However, Sonego is no pushover and he can certainly challenge Tsonga. The Italian already scored four straight set wins and is very familiar with the conditions. We’ll still take the Frenchman but we don’t expect it to be that easy.
Prediction: Tsonga in 3
