Darja Semenistaja vs Sinja Kraus
Head-to-head: Kraus 2-0 Semenistaja
This is a rematch of the Oeiras quarterfinals. Kraus outplayed Semenistaja on her way to the final. The Austrian has taken a noticeable step toward fulfilling her potential. She’s cracked the Top 100 and has backed it up with excellent form on clay (26 wins). While Semenistaja is a crafty counterpuncher, it is Kraus who tends to win most of the baseline duels and that is unlikely to change.

Elena Pridankina vs Panna Udvardy
Head-to-head: Pridankina 1-0 Udvardy
Pridankina won a main draw match for the first time this season at the Iasi Open. The 20-year-old Russian will look to build on her improved form on clay. Udvardy has played her best tennis on clay this year. She has reached at least the quarterfinals in four tournaments on the surface. Pridankiva has the firepower to rush the Hungarian, but on a slow clay court, Udvardy’s defensive skillset could be decisive.

Valentina Steiner vs Noma Noha Akugue
Head-to-head: first meeting
Since reaching the 2023 Hamburg final, Noha Akugue hasn’t quite hit the same heights in each of her last two appearances in this tournament. Last year, she lost a close three-setter against Anna Bondar in the opening round. That said, the 22-year-old has enjoyed a productive season, highlighted by three ITF titles. After an impressive qualifying run in this tournament last year, Steiner has received a main draw wild card for the 2026 edition. But I think this will be a difficult test for the inexperienced Steiner. Akugue’s weight of shot and valuable Tour-level experience should aid her cause.

Yulia Putintseva vs Mona Barthel
Head-to-head: Barthel 2-1 Putintseva
The last time these two women faced off was back in 2019. So the head-to-head doesn’t add too much weight in this match. Barthel had a solid qualifying run, winning two matches from a set down. However, drawing Putintseva on clay is about as difficult an opening round as she could ask. The Kazakh’s elite court coverage will likely frustrate the big-hitting German.
