The 2026 Berlin Tennis Open promises to be a terrific tournament. As usual, it has one of the strongest WTA 500-level entry lists. Coco Gauff, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, and Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina are all set to feature. The list of players would have been even stronger had it not been for six withdrawals from the German event.
Six Players Withdraw From 2026 Berlin Tennis Open
Which Players Have Withdrawn?
Mirra Andreeva was going to play her first match of the grass-court season at the Berlin Tennis Open. Instead, she has decided to take some additional time off. That is unsurprising after the 19-year-old secured her maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open. A more extended rest after that achievement is probably wise.
Amanda Ansimova was the second player to withdraw from the Berlin Tennis Open. Last year’s Wimbledon runner-up played her first grass-court tournament of the year at the Queen’s Club Championship, losing in the quarterfinal to Iva Jovic. Anisimova has decided that competing in a second tournament in as many weeks would be unwise, which is understandable given her previous injury issues this season.
Jasmine Paolini’s participation at Wimbledon is in doubt after she withdrew from the German tournament. She cannot play because of a foot injury. At this stage, it is uncertain whether she will recover from that problem in time for the season’s third Grand Slam, where she reached the final in 2024.
Unfortunately, Victoria Mboko will definitely miss Wimbledon. The Canadian star injured her knee at the Queen’s Club Championships during her match against Karolina Pliskova. That also meant Mboko had to withdraw from the doubles with Serena Williams. She was going to feature at the Berlin Tennis Open until that injury.
Belinda Bencic and Sorana Cirstea were the other withdrawals.
Who Replaced Those Players on the Entry List?
Shnaider took the place of Andreeva, with whom she won an Olympic Silver Medal in doubles. This will be her first appearance since reaching the French Open semifinals, which ended in a devastating loss to the qualifier Maja Chwalinska. Kalinskaya, who Chwalinska defeated in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, replaced Paolini. She was the 2024 runner-up at the Berlin Tennis Open and had several match points in the final against Jessica Pegula.
Anastasia Potapova will hope to continue her resurgence after moving onto the entry list instead of Mboko. The 25-year-old reached the round-of-16 at the Italian Open and the French Open, and only missed out on the quarterfinals of the latter in a deciding set tiebreak against Kalinskaya. Elise Mertens, a consistently solid and steady performer across all surfaces, benefited from Bencic’s withdrawal.
Wang Xinyu, who finished as the runner-up to Marketa Vondrousova at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open, replaced Cirstea. Her run to that stage included overcoming Coco Gauff in the American’s first match since winning that year’s French Open. Anisimova’s spot will be taken by a lucky loser.
