WTA Linz Day 3 Predictions Including Jelena Ostapenko vs Alexandra Eala

Day 3 on the indoor clay at WTA Linz brings yet another packed slate of matches, featuring Major champions and one of the sport’s fastest-rising stars all on display as the competition gets tighter and the pressure rises with each passing day of the week. As always, we here at LWOT will be predicting all six encounters for you—three in this article and another three in a separate piece. But who do you think will advance to Day 4 in Linz?

WTA Linz Day 3 Predictions

Elena-Gabriela Ruse vs Dayana Yastremska

Head-to-head: Ruse 4-0 Yastremska

Dayana Yastremska did well to come through an aggressive three-set battle in the previous round, and this matchup against Elena-Gabriela Ruse will likely hinge on Ruse’s defense and counterpunching against Yastremska’s attacking baseline game. Historically, Ruse has dominated this matchup, largely because her counterpunching frustrates Yastremska and forces her into unforced errors. With that pattern consistently repeating, a sudden shift in result seems unlikely, although this could be closer than previous encounters.

Prediction: Ruse in 3

Anhelina Kalinina vs Panna Udvardy

Head-to-head: Kalinina 2-0 Udvardy

Panna Udvardy was just a set away from winning the title in Bogota last week, capping off an excellent run on her preferred clay surface. Now facing Anhelina Kalinina, who also impressed in qualifying, fatigue could become a factor for Udvardy given her recent workload. If that happens, Kalinina should have enough baseline strength to outplay an opponent she already holds a mental edge over.

Prediction: Kalinina in 2

Jelena Ostapenko vs Alexandra Eala

Head-to-head: Eala 2-0 Ostapenko

In one of the standout matches of the tournament, crowd favorite Alexandra Eala faces former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko. The pattern in their previous meetings has been clear: Ostapenko creates opportunities but struggles to control her unforced errors, which plays directly into Eala’s counterpunching strengths. If Ostapenko manages to control her aggression, she has the tools to win, but history suggests that inconsistency could once again be her downfall against the improving Eala.

Prediction: Eala in 3

About Zain Mustafa

Being brought up in a sports-watching home, some of the spheres flying across the TV screen stuck with me more than others, the yellow fuzzy one probably the most. A lefty Mallorcan got me into it, a righty Murcian has kept me in it after him, but to be honest, once I was in, I never felt like leaving anyway.
