As was the case last year, this week’s ATP 250 event in Los Cabos doesn’t feature a particularly strong field, what with two Masters 1000 and the US Open coming up next. It still has consistently produced some very good matchs on a fast surface and this Tuesday should be no exception, with some very interesting matchups in prospect.
ATP Los Cabos Day 2 Predictions
Sho Shimabukuro vs Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez
Head-to-head: first meeting
Shimabukuro is arguably in the best moment of his career, recently making his Top 100 debut and getting some very nice wins on grass–and even a run to the quarterfinals in Stuttgart. Mendez, on the other hand, hasn’t been progressing much and is even currently ranked #320 but playing at home things should even out quite a bit and make this a very tight match.
Prediction: Shimabukuro in 3
Soonwoo Kwon vs Arthur Gea
Head-to-head: Kwon 1-0 Gea
Kwon won when the pair faced in Wimbledon qualifying last month, but it was a very close match, just like this one should be. Kwon has not lived up to the promise he once showed, while Gea is struggling to make a big breakthrough himself. This tournament is a great chance to both to get some very important momentum going.
Prediction: Kwon in 3
Moise Kouame vs Edward Winter
Head-to-head: first meeting
Kouame really impressed at Roland Garros but hasn’t won a match since (and only played two). The 17-year-old Frenchman has a great chance to finally get another win under his belt, facing the world #391 who has only made into this main draw as a qualifier. It should still be a close match, but Kouame goes in with a slight edge.

Michael Zheng vs Martin Landaluce
Head-to-head: first meeting
Zheng won a very close third set tiebreak match when the pair faced in the Boys’ semifinal at Wimbledon 2022, but Landaluce seems to have transitioned much better to ATP level and looks set to have a much better career going forward. That said, on this surface it should be a close match at this point in their respective careers and Zheng could well win.
