Leylah Fernandez in action ahead of the WTA Guadalajara Open.

WTA Wimbledon First Round Best Bets Including Leylah Fernandez vs Janice Tjen

WTA Wimbledon first-round play begins. For many, this is the crown jewel of all tennis tournaments, known locally as The Championships. The women’s tournament begins with Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina as the top two seeds. Still, they are not playing well and are not entering the All-England Club with much of any confidence. Iga Swiatek is the defending champion but is not playing well, either. There are a lot of questions in the women’s tournament, and there is a real chance the tournament will be as unpredictable as the French Open was a few weeks ago, with Mirra Andreeva playing Maja Chwalinska in a very unexpected final. What will happen at Wimbledon? There’s a lot of uncertainty, which should create a very exciting tournament. LWOS has our best bet for three matches. Post your best bets and thoughts in the comments.

Krejcikova – Klugman: 11:30 EST

H2H: 0-0

What a unique WTA Wimbledon matchup this is. Barbora Krejcikova is a former WTA Wimbledon champion. Her opponent is Hannah Klugman, a 17-year-old who will have British fans backing her. A champion versus a home-nation teenager is something you do not see very often at major tournaments or in any tennis tournament of any kind. Krejcikova is obviously an accomplished grass tennis player. She made the final in Hertogenbosch earlier this month but had to withdraw before the final against Robin Montgomery. She was obviously not 100-percent fit then, and when she lost her only match at Eastbourne over a week later to Kimberly Birrell, worries grew about her physical fitness with The Championships right around the corner. Krejcikova is a huge betting market favorite against Klugman, but her recent loss does introduce some questions.

Best Bet to Make

The price for Krejcikova moneyline is very small, so that’s not worth betting any money on. Klugman is an untested teenager, so she might easily get very nervous, but the other side of the coin is that she has nothing to lose and will play freely in front of a home-nation crowd. The game spread is the place where you should be betting in this match. Making a pro-Krejcikova bet is very understandable since she won this WTA Wimbledon tournament two years ago. However, the lingering concerns about Krejcikova’s health make us inclined to make a pro-Klugman bet. It could also be viewed as an attempt to fade Krejcikova just because of worries about how fit she is. A fully fit Krejcikova probably covers the spread, but we aren’t convinced Krejcikova is fully healthy.

That being said, betting on Klugman +6.5 games is a value bet for sure.

Siniakova – Zheng: Time 11:30 EST

H2H: 3-1

Qinwen Zheng used to be ranked in the WTA top 10. She used to be a world-class player. That version of Zheng no longer exists. She is 9-9 in 18 matches this year. She is 2-3 in five matches on grass. She is just not able to string together good matches consecutively. Everyone in tennis is wondering if Qinwen Zheng will be able to return to being the top player she used to be. If she can beat a top-35 opponent, Katerina Siniakova, in the first round of this WTA Wimbledon tournament, she would gain some new believers and might be able to generate enough confidence for the second half of her 2026 tennis season.

Best Bet to Make

Siniakova is not one of the best singles players on tour, but she is a solid top-35 player. Is Qinwen Zheng good enough to be trusted with taking her out in the first round of WTA Wimbledon? Should you put your confidence in Zheng as a bettor in this match? Given the way Zheng has played on grass and as a whole in 2026, she is not meeting the standard of a player who should be trusted to win. Siniakova moneyline is very reasonably priced and will be our recommended bet, just because we think there’s a very good chance she will win.

That being said, betting on Siniakova winning is a value bet for sure.

Fernandez – Tjen: Time 11:30 EST

H2H: 0-2

Leylah Fernandez is a top-25 WTA player, ranked at No. 23, but she isn’t playing like it. Fernandez is 12-18 in 30 professional matches this year. She has not been able to generate consistently good results. If she takes one step forward, she then takes two steps back. Her 0-2 head-to-head record against Janice Tjen is from this year, but the two matches were before March, in the Australian Open and Dubai, so a lot has happened since then. Those two matches had a tiebreaker in them. Tjen won those tiebreakers and will try to win the big points in this new encounter at WTA Wimbledon.

Best Bet to Make

The struggles of Leylah Fernandez are well known. 12-18 in 30 matches isn’t a good record in 2026. However, Janice Tjen is 8-18 in 26 pro matches this season. She did get two of her eight wins against Fernandez, but it’s hard to think that a player who is struggling this badly overall will continue to beat the same opponent when that opponent is ranked higher. Of course, Fernandez isn’t playing well, but Tjen isn’t playing well either. The pendulum is bound to swing the other way in this matchup. Fernandez moneyline doesn’t offer much of a price, so go with Fernandez to win in straight sets. The price is excellent.

That being said, betting on Fernandez winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.
