The WTA Bad Homburg concludes with the final on Saturday. This is the last match before Wimbledon. It is also a chance for two established WTA Tour veterans to lift a trophy and add a title to their resumes. The semifinals were pretty straightforward, and the seeded players moved on without much pushback. It will be interesting to see if there is a walkover tomorrow, as both players will be among those competing at Wimbledon with a shot at winning it. Karolina Muchova and Naomi Osaka have a rich history against one another and will meet in their first final at Bad Homburg. Osaka has actually won four matches against Muchova, but one of them was a walkover so it’s left off the official tally. Even though they have met in three different Majors and nearly every match has been competitive, they had not played on grass before Bad Homburg. Osaka won in two of those Majors, and Muchova won in one. Osaka is also 4-0 on grass this year, but Muchova isn’t far behind at 4-1. Osaka is 28-20 on grass in her career, and Muchova is 24-16.
Muchvova is just 6-4 in her last ten matches, and while three of her losses were to highly ranked players, the same cannot be said for Jil Teichmann, who is No. 126 in the World. That is not to say that Muchova is playing poorly heading into the Bad Homburg final; she just needs to remain focused and prepare for an opponent she has struggled against in the past. There’s also the question of how much energy either of these women would want to expend before the biggest tournament of the year. If either Muchova or Osaka is completely out of it early, do they stay in the game and fight or pack it in and save their energy? I genuinely do not know, and only the staff and players would.

The books see Osaka as the winner in Bad Homburg. The average spread is about 1.73-2.1 in favor of Osaka. There are several ways this match can go, but I genuinely think that taking the over on 22.5 games is a fairly safe bet, as they’ve done that in every match they’ve actually played.
