WTA Strasbourg Day 2 Predictions Including Daria Kasatkina vs Liudmila Samsonova

Day two of the WTA Strasbourg International promises plenty of entertaining tennis with last year’s beaten finalist amongst those in action in France with Roland Garros looming large on the horizon. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate, but who will reach the second round at the Tennis Club de Strasbourg?

WTA Strasbourg Day 2 Predictions

Magdalena Frech vs Talia Gibson

Head-to-head: Frech 1-0 Gibson

Magdalena Frech dropped just four games in a routine straight sets win over Talia Gibson at last year’s US Open and so will presumably go into this match with real confidence. But the Australian is a much-improved player from last summer, and has enjoyed a breakout year at the WTA level. A Top 50 debut is very much within her reach, although it is unlikely to come this swing. Gibson has played 12 times on clay at the pro level and owns a 4-8 lifetime record. Her point construction on slower courts remains a work in progress.

Prediction: Frech in 2

McCartney Kessler vs Jaqueline Cristian

Head-to-head: Kessler 2-0 Cristian

McCartney tKessler’s preparations for the French Open began on a positive note as she reached the last eight in Charleston. But since switching to European clay, the American has won once in four matches, a run that includes a damaging defeat to Elise Mertens in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying. Statistically, clay is Cristian’s best surface, but the Romanian has put together strong results on hard courts. That said, Cristian is a great absorber of pace and that approach of replleing most shots against an aggressive hitter like Kessler should pay off.

Prediction: Cristian in 3

Alexandra Eala vs Oleksandra Oliynykova

Head-to-head: first meeting

Alexandra Eala arrives at the WTA Strasbour International coming off a respectable showing in Rome, where she reached the third round and lost in two close sets to Elena Rybakina. Oleksandra Oliynykova came through the WTA Strasbourg qualifying with high-quality wins against Antonia Ruzic and Yulia Putintseva. The Ukrainian won both matches in straight sets and enters the main draw with less attention but quietly solid clay form. Still, Eala’s heavier forehand could be the difference in these conditions as she generates more angle and depth from that wing.

Prediction: Eala in 2

Marie Bouzkova vs Katerina Siniakova

Head-to-head: Siniakova 2-0 Bouzkova

This is an all-Czech first-round match at WTA Strasbourg that should be competitive. Marie Bouzkova was one of the earliest winners on clay when she romped to the title in Bogota. But she is winless in her last two tournaments. Katerina Siniakova, meanwhile, appeared to be carrying a leg injury in Rome, yet she showed no major physical limitations during matches. She almost made the third round in singles (lost a classic to Anna Kalinskaya) and was a semifinalist in doubles. From a match-up perspective, this is a tricky one for Bouzkova, who loves predictable patterns. Siniakova has so much variety in her game and uses the full width of the court.

Prediction: Siniakova in 3

Daria Kasatkina vs Liudmila Samsonova

Head-to-head: Samsonova 2-0 Kasatkina

Daria Kasatkina is a lowly 9-8 for the season, but she racked up five victories in her title-winning week at the La Bisbal 125K event earlier this month. The former top 10 player is rebuilding confidence after a rough start to the year. This is her second trip to Strasbourg and last season she lost in the first round to Emma Raducanu. Samsonova has appeared in this tournament twice before and was the runner-up last year. The Russian is 7-11 in 2026 and has picked up three wins this swing. Samsonova is a top ball striker, but her level can swing quickly in matches. Kasatkina’s style is exactly the profile that can frustrate her.

Prediction: Kasatkina in 3
