ATP Vienna Day 3 Predictions
Round of 16
Tallon Griekspoor vs Brandon Nakashima
Head-to-head – Griekspoor 1-0 Nakashima
Tallon Griekspoor made a good start to his campaign this week by knocking out the fifth seed Karen Khachanov in an entertaining three-setter. He takes on Brandon Nakashima, who also looked pretty good in his first round match. All in all it was a solid performance by both. Expect Griekspoor to nab the win as he has looked the better ever since Shanghai with his baseline game being as solid as ever.
Prediction: Griekspoor in 3
Round of 32
Damir Dzumhur vs Corentin Moutet
Head-to-head – Dzumhur 1-0 Moutet
Corentin Moutet enters this week as a serious dark horse to reach the latter stages of the tournament after a fantastic week in Almaty. The Frenchman is using his variety to full effect and the indoor conditions are suiting his linear groundstrokes. He faces Damir Dzumhur, who did beat him in their only previous meeting this year–but the Bosnian enters this match with no form. Expect Moutet to be effective once again.
Prediction: Moutet in 2
Matteo Berrettini vs Alexei Popyrin
Head-to-head – Berrettini 2-1 Popyrin
This is a very tough match to call. Matteo Berrettini and Alexei Popyrin have no momentum entering this week, as has been the case for them this year. Expect the match to be full of ups and downs. Berrettini should be able to get more free points if his serve fires and his forehand should be able to do damage on these courts. Popyrin is a solid baseliner and Berrettini looks likely to keep his errors to a minimum.
Prediction: Berrettini in 3
Jannik Sinner vs Daniel Altmaier
Head-to-head – Sinner 2-1 Altmaier
Jannik Sinner enters Vienna as the heavy favorite. The Italian looked good in action at the Six Kings Slam after having had to retire mid-match in Shanghai. He should be looking to carry forward the rich vein of form to a part of the season he has dominated in recent years. His first assignment is against Daniel Altmaier–who does have a win against Sinner, but that was in 2023. Sinner beat Altmaier quite easily in Shanghai and the result of this match should be no different.
Prediction: Sinner in 2
