China Open: Three Players Receive ATP Beijing Wild Cards

The 2025 China Open is one of two ATP 500 events that form part of the Asian swing, and main draw action will commence on September 25th in Beijing.

Even in the absence of defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who opted to play in Tokyo in the same week, the field in Beijing is replete with talent and big names.

Five of the Top 10 players will headline the event, with World No. 2 Jannik Sinner set to spearhead the lineup. The Italian reached the final in each of the last two editions. He took home the title in 2023 and lost to Alcaraz in an epic last year. The 32-player singles field will include three wild cards, and the tournament handed all of them to home players.

The first wild card is Yunchaokete Bu. The World No. 74 is making his second appearance at the China Open. Bu impressed on his debut last year, reaching the semifinal stage after knocking out Lorenzo Musetti and Andrey Rublev before losing to Jannik Sinner. If he is to replicate that run, he will need to snap a three-match losing streak at the Tour level.

The second wild card is Zhizhen Zhang. The 28-year-old Shanghai native will play his second tournament after recovering from a serious shoulder injury he sustained after Indian Wells. Zhang has a modest record in Beijing with three qualifying defeats and only one main draw match win in his career.

The last wild card spot has gone to Juncheng Shang. The 20-year-old lefty captured his first ATP Tour title in Chengdu at this time last season, but missed six months of the current season because of a foot injury. Shang addressed the issue by underdoing surgery and recovered in time to attempt to defend his title in Chengdu this week. He lost in the first round in each of his two main draw appearances in Beijing.
