The round of 16 has begun at the WTA Seoul Open. I took last week off due to a death of one of my pets. I apologize for the absence, but I am back at it now. The action in Korea has been impressive, and the upcoming matches are sure to impress, as well. With all of that out there, let’s take a look at my best bets for WTA Seoul. I will also be changing the way I pick matches very soon, but more on that another time. Here are my best bets for the round of 16 in Korea.
WTA Seoul
Joint– Kenin: Time 03:00
H2H: 1-0
Maya Joint and Sofia Kenin met once earlier this year at WTA Hobart in the quarterfinals. Joint made quick work of Kenin in straight sets. Kenin won a total of four games that match. Now Kenin has the chance to even the score against the young Australian. Unfortunately for Kenin, she’s 3-7 in her last ten matches while Kenin is 5-5 in hers. Prior to her win against Laura Siegemund in the first round, Kenin was riding a four-match losing streak. Joint is doing just well enough to give Kenin another beating.
Best Bet to Make
The books have Joint as the favorite, and I agree. While Joint does have an impressive hardcourt record in 2025 at 21-13, that’s not the motivation behind her selection, though it didn’t hurt. The simple fact of the matter is that Sofia Kenin is not playing well in 2025 and time is running out for her to turn it around. Outside of a surprising finals run in Charleston and a quarterfinal appearance in Dubai, Kenin has not been a factor all year. Joint is having no such problems in 2025, and will likely see her world ranking go up at the end of the year.
That being said, Joint winning is a value bet for sure.

Siniakova – Kasatkina: Time 03:00
H2H: 1-6
The only time that Katerina Siniakova beat Darya Kasatkina in her entire career was at WTA Hamburg in 2022. She has faced Kasatkina seven times, and she’s lost six of them, with the most recent coming at this year’s French Open in the first round. They’ve even done battle on an indoor court back at WTA Moscow in 2017. Four of their seven matches have gone to a third set, but only one of those four third sets was competitive.

Best Bet to Make
The books have Kasatkina as the favorite, but not by very much. That said, Siniakova is in as good of a position as she has ever been in this match. Kasatkina is 5-5 in her last ten and she hasn’t played since the third round of the US Open. Meanwhile, Siniakova is 8-2 in her last ten and she has one tournament victory in there, too. The overall record is going to push some people away, but I genuinely think current form is more important and Siniakova is absolutely cooking right now. This is the type of match where players get complacent, and I feel like Kasatkina is going to get complacent.
That being said, Siniakova winning is a value bet for sure.

Tauson – Lys: Time 03:00
H2H: 0-0
Clara Tauson has been having a rough time since WTA Montreal. She’s 1-3 in her last four matches after going 5-1 in her first six. Eva Lys is largely having a ho-hum year. The furthest she’s gone in any ’25 tournament is the quarterfinals, and that was only twice. Tauson has a tournament title to her name this year, at least. Lys is 6-4 in her last ten matches this year, and is looking for her first tournament victory since 2022.
Best Bet to Make
Tauson was playing really well heading into Cincinnati and is the favorite in this match for a reason. She’s been incredible on a hardcourt in 2025. She’s 20-9 compared to Lys’ 17-11 record on the same surface. When it comes to their yearly record, Tauson is 33-17, while Lys is 26-20 on the year. I think this is the exact match that Tauson needs to get back on track; she just needs to make sure she doesn’t get complacent. I’ve already picked one person to get complacent, so here’s to hoping Tauson doesn’t make me look foolish.
That being said, Tauson winning is a value bet for sure.
