WTA Cincinnati Day 3 Predictions
Emma Raducanu vs Olga Danilovic
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Olga Danilovic faces yet another British player in the second round here in Cincinnati after defeating Katie Boulter in straight sets in the first round.
Next, she faces Emma Raducanu, who reached the semifinal in Washington before being completely overwhelmed by Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova in the third round. While the number of matches and quick schedule may have influenced her performance, Raducanu has had a whole week to prepare for this tournament and will be looking to add more wins to her record.
While the Serb could prove tricky, Raducanu has performed well in her early round matches this year, and she should be able to see this through in their first encounter.
Prediction: Raducanu in 3
Madison Keys vs Eva Lys
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Germany’s Eva Lys had a solid showing in Montreal last week, advancing through to the third round before succumbing to second seed Iga Swiatek.
Reaching the third round marked her best performance in the six tournaments she has played this year, which should boost her confidence, but the 23-year-old faces a tricky opponent in Madison Keys, who clinched the title in Cincinnati back in 2019. In a year where she is poised for the best season of her illustrious career, Keys will be eager to maintain her strong form and progress far in this tournament. The sixth seed showed strong performance last week and should enter this event feeling refreshed. Expectations are high for her to perform well, and she will achieve a relatively straightforward victory in her opening match.
Prediction: Keys in 2
Liudmila Samsonova vs Taylor Townsend
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Taylor Townsend will move into the next round with momentum and confidence buoyed by her upset of Danielle Collins. Her unconventional left-handed style and dynamic court coverage make her a difficult opponent, particularly on hard courts.
On the opposing side, Liudmila Samsonova brings a polished, aggressive baseline game and has showcased solid form on hard surfaces throughout 2025, inching toward a return to the top #20.
With this being their first-ever meeting and given the upward trajectory she’s currently on and the consistency she has shown on the surface, Samsonova enters as the logical choice to advance. Townsend’s unpredictability and recent form make her capable of springing surprises, but Samsonova’s raw power and experience suggest she will likely control the match’s tempo. Let’s go with the Russian
Prediction: Samsonova in 3.
Iga Swiatek vs Anastasia Potapova
Head–to–Head: Swiatek 1 vs 0 Potapova
In her first competition following her first Wimbledon victory, Iga Swiatek was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing in straight sets to Clara Tauson in Montreal. She appeared to have difficulties with the windy conditions and was unable to manage most of the rallies against the Danish player. Her focus now shifts to Cincinnati as she readies herself for the US Open later in the month.
Her next opponent will be Anastasia Potapova, who secured her place in the second round by defeating Laura Siegemund in straight sets. It wasn’t the most impressive performance from the Russian, and she will need to elevate her game if she hopes to overcome Swiatek.
The Pole holds the advantage in their head-to-head matchup after an overpowering double bagel victory in the fourth round of last year’s French Open. This matchup is expected to result in another straight-sets victory for Swiatek.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
