2025 US Open To Offer Largest Prize Money In Grand Slam History

The 2025 US Open will feature the largest prize money purse in a Grand Slam tournament.

In a recent press release, the USTA confirmed it has committed a prize money total of $90 million for the 2025 tournament, representing a substantial increase of 20% from last year’s total, which in itself was a record at $75 million.

This year’s tournament will be the most lucrative in all of tennis, with the figure quoted including all tiers of the competition (singles, doubles, wheelchair, and the newly revamped star-studded mixed doubles event).

There will be significant hikes in compensation in every round of the tournament for those who will participate in the final Major of the year, with main draw action set to begin on August 24th in New York City.

US Open singles champions will each earn $5 million, the most in a Grand Slam tournament

Last year’s US Open offered $3.6 million to the winning players in singles, which was the highest in a Grand Slam. Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka emerged as champions in the men’s and women’s tournaments, respectively.

This year’s Wimbledon shattered that record, rewarding the two singles champions £3 million (the equivalent of $4 million on the current exchange rate). But the 2025 US Open will raise the stakes even higher, handing out a colossal $5 million paycheck to the man and woman who will win the singles tournament.

It is not the winners alone who stand to benefit. Qualifying for the US Open guarantees a six-figure payday of up $110,000, giving the lower-ranked players a lifeline in breaking even in their season’s earnings. Players who make it to the second week in singles will earn at least $400,000. The tournament’s runner-up will take home $2,500,000.

The $5 million payout is the highest among Grand Slam and ATP/WTA-affiliated events, but falls short of the highest prize money amount in a tennis tournament. The figure is slightly below the $6 million that Jannik Sinner received for winning the lucrative Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament, which was held in Saudi Arabia last year and is due to return for its second edition this autumn.
