ATP Toronto Day 2 Predictions Including Liam Draxl vs Pablo Carreno Busta

There should be no shortage of entertaining action on day two at ATP Toronto with 16 matches on the slate. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Marcos Giron vs Adrian Mannarino and Joao Fonseca vs Tristan Schoolkate. But who will secure their spot in the round of 64?

ATP Toronto Day 2 Predictions

Borna Coric vs Matteo Gigante

Head-to-head: first meeting

Matteo Gigante was a surprising wildcard choice with the tournament in Toronto apparently trading off for a WTA Rome wildcard next year. The Italian does have the level to hang with this level and the tools are there, it’s just tough to say why he’s struggling so much to put them together. Still, given this will be Borna Coric’s first match after spending two months off the court due to injury, Gigante has a real shot to do damage here.

Francisco Comesana vs Damir Dzumhur

Head-to-head: first meeting

This won’t be an easy turnaround for Damir Dzumhur, who was playing the Umag semifinals on Friday (and took just three games off Carlos Taberner). But if Dzumhur is anywhere near his best, it should be an entertaining watch with both players preferring an all-court style and exhibiting excellent touch. Francisco Comesana had a couple of days more to prepare and probably won’t be afraid of Dzumhur’s cat-and-mouse games given he feels comfortable in the forecourt.

Prediction: Comesana in 3

Alexander Blockx vs Luciano Darderi

Head-to-head: first meeting

Luciano Darderi has been very impressive over the last few months, especially claiming back-to-back titles in Umag and Bastad just now. Contesting the final in Croatia on Saturday evening and then switching surfaces to play on Monday in Canada? That sounds slightly unrealistic. But if the Italian doesn’t end up withdrawing, it’s hard to imagine a better opportunity for Alexander Blockx to finally grab that first tour-level win that has eluded him for a while.

Liam Draxl vs Pablo Carreno Busta

Head-to-head: first meeting

Liam Draxl has already made seven Challenger finals in 2025, which would have gotten him into top 100 a long time ago if he wasn’t struggling so to actually win those finals. Instead, Draxl currently has a disappointing 1-6 record, but has been handed a big opportunity to make his mark on the ATP Tour here. The Canadian doesn’t have a big game, but he does have plenty of heart and competitive spirit. Will it be enough on the big stage though? He will have a chance against a veteran who might not be fully healthy as he works his way back from injury. But if sharp physically, Pablo Carreno Busta should have enough to handle the Canadian.

Prediction: Carreno Busta in 3

About Damian Kust

Damian is a connoisseur of the lower tiers of men's tennis and would probably watch the World No. 700 play a ferret if he could see it from the stands. Always pleased by a beautiful one-handed backhand or classic volleying technique.
