ATP Washington Best Bets Including Jaume Munar vs Marcos Giron

The ATP is finally back Stateside for the ATP Washington Open. Sebastian Korda won the ’24 ATP Washington Open over Flavio Cobolli in three sets. Korda won’t be competing this time around, so it’s anyone’s game. Here are my best bets for the first round of action at ATP Washington. Let me know whether you agree in the comment section.

ATP Washington Open

Halys – Kovacevic: Time 16:00

H2H: 1-0

Quentin Halys last played Aleksandar Kovacevic in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Phoenix Challenger. Halys took the match in three sets on a hardcourt. While this is Halys’ first time at the ATP Washington Open, it will be the second appearance for Kovacevic, who made the round of 16 last year. Kovacevic is 28-20 on the year with two tournament titles, one main and one lower-level. Halys hasn’t seen the winner’s podium since 2023 in singles competition.

Best Bet to Make

Entering the match, Halys is a slight favorite with the books. This seems a little weird to me since he is 17-19 this year, and he hasn’t impressed in any tournament since February. Kovacevic isn’t Carlos Alcaraz or anything, but he’s coming off a final loss at Los Cabos right before this. He’s playing some solid tennis in 2025, too. He’s been to four finals, and he’s 2-2 in those finals. When it comes to hardcourt and indoor surfaces, Kovacevic seems to be more comfortable. Since he’s coming off a final and playing on his preferred surface, I’m running with Kovacevic.

That being said, Kovacevic winning is a value bet for sure.

 Mpetshi-Perricard – Vukic: Time 00:00

H2H: 1-0

Neither Aleksandar Vukic nor Giovanni Mpetshi-Perricard is having a banner year in the sport. The two are a combined 26-37 on the year, with each having 13 wins apiece. Mpetshi-Perricard isn’t having nearly as bad of a year as Vukic, but at least he can say he’s been to one final and one semifinal. Vukic has a lone semifinal to his name back in May. Mpetshi-Perricard has one prior appearance at Washington, but this is the third time Vukic has participated. Vukic is only 3-9 on hardcourt this year, which makes Mpetshi-Perricard’s 5-5 look outstanding.

Best Bet to Make

Mpetshi-Perricard can be had at 1.65, and that’s probably as good as you’re going to get with this match. Vukic is nearly a full point off at 2.63 on Bet365. While Mpetshi-Perricard is 5-5 in his last ten matches, the same can be said for Vukic. Mpetshi-Perrricard has been a tad more reliable on hardcourt matches than Vukic, and that’s really the defining difference between these two. In the nine hardcourt tournaments in which he’s played, he’s only won his opening round match twice.

That being said, Mpetshi-Perricard winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Mpetshi-Perricard winning @1.65 @Betway

Munar – Giron: Time 16:00

H2H: 1-1

Jaume Munar and Marcos Giron are both sitting in approximately the same position right now. While neither has had an awful year, they haven’t had a great year either. Results-wise, Giron has had a slightly better year. He has four quarterfinal appearances, while Munar only has two semifinal appearances, and both of them occurred before February 9th, 2025. Since then, Munar hasn’t advanced past the round of 16. Giron was in the quarterfinals at Eastbourne just last month. This is also Munar’s first time playing in Washington, and it’s the fourth appearance for Giron.

Best Bet to Make

At 9-6 on hardcourt this year, I’m taking Giron in this match. The books also have him as a favorite, and I agree. Consistency is a key part of Giron’s game, and he gets the advantage of playing on his preferred surface. Did I mention he’s also 312-190 on the surface? Munar is primarily a clay player, and he’s only 71-96 overall on hardcourt. This is a hardcourt professional taking on someone out of his preferred element. It not only makes logical sense to pick Giron, but it also makes financial sense. You can either roll with Giron straight at 1.88 for a small profit or take him 2:0 for 2.9 on Betway. I’d take the match straight.

That being said, Giron winning is a value bet for sure.
