Wimbledon 2025 continues to deliver surprises and drama as the women’s singles draw reaches the fourth round. Several underdogs have made deep runs—none more inspiring than Sonay Kartal, who leads the British charge on home soil. Meanwhile, big names like Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova look to assert their dominance against rising threats. With a compelling mix of power, variety, and storylines, our panel of writers break down and predict each of the upcoming Round of 16 clashes.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Elise Mertens
Yesh: Sabalenka has struggled at times in her last two matches. Mertens, meanwhile, is playing her best tennis in years. Will it be enough? Probably not. Sabalenka is just too good when she’s hitting the ball cleanly, even if she’s not doing it 100% of the time right now.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3
Jordan: Mertens usually does not go beyond the fourth round at Grand Slams. The Belgian will need an exceptional performance to break that trend. Unfortunately, she has lost nine consecutive matches against Sabalenka, and it is impossible to look past that record.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2
Steen: Sabalenka is a heavy favorite with the oddsmakers, the veteran Mertens upset Svitolina and is having a great week, she won Den Bosch and is a super grass court player with a 29-12 record on the year. Sabalenka ousted home hope Raducanu in the third round and hasn’t dropped a set this week. This match will be closer than expected, and I’ll go against the odds and predict a significant upset, this feels like Mertens moment to break through against a top player. Prediction: Mertens in 3
Solana Sierra vs Laura Siegemund
Yesh: Solana Sierra has been stunning everyone so far this week, but Laura Siegemund is just playing way too well right now. Have to think this is where the dream ends.
Prediction: Siegemund in 3
Jordan: Two of the biggest surprise packages meet in the fourth round. Siegemund will hope her variety and ability to frustrate her opponent works as well again. I have a feeling it will against Sierra, who is usually more comfortable reacting to power than generating it.
Prediction: Siegemund in 3
Steen: The 37 year old Siegemund began the week with a below .500 tour record but hasn’t dropped a set in three matches. It’s a huge opportunity for a player that has never made this kind of run at Wimbledon. The 21 year old qualifier Sierra is playing the best tournament of her life. She’s been an ITF clay court specialist coming into this week, and lacks the experience of her opponent, but you really can’t argue with her results. Siegemund’s level on grass looks higher. Prediction: Siegemund in 2
Amanda Anisimova vs Linda Noskova
Yesh: Anisimova had a weird walkabout as she was preparing to close out her last match, but she is so comfortable on the grass and her powerful groundstrokes make her deadly.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2
Jordan: Two of the most powerful hitters in women’s tennis go head-to-head. I trust Anisimova to stay more consistent after her excellent grass-court swing. She seems locked in right now.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2
Steen: Anisimova had some trouble in her last match but she’s at a career high ranking and reached the Queens Club final, this is her moment to challenge for the Wimbledon title given this draw. The 20 year old Noskova hasn’t been dominant this week, but the top 20 looks certain in her near future. After a good grass court season, Noskova is brimming with confidence. Anisimova has too much of a heavy ball to fall short in this one though. Prediction: Anisimova in 3
Sonay Kartal vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Yesh: Sonay Kartal is the great British hope this tournament. The atmosphere will be electric, and Pavlyuchenkova is not at her best on grass. Dream upset?
Prediction: Kartal in 3
Jordan: Kartal has a great game for disrupting power, as she showed in previous rounds. Pavlyuchenkova will need to be consistently good and accurate with her hitting to triumph. I think Kartal’s variety and defensive skills might give the British fans another win.
Prediction: Kartal in 2
Steen; British hopes rest on the racquet of Sonay Kartal, the newly top 50 player hasn’t faced elite competition to reach this stage. The veteran Pavs comes off an upset of Naomi Osaka, a good grass court season has set her up for another potential Wimbledon quarterfinal, and I will trust the experience of Pavlyuchenkova. Prediction: Pavlyuchenkova in 3
