Carlos Alcaraz Admits to having “Doubts” in Win over Jaume Munar

Tennis lovers are always in awe of Carlos Alcaraz‘s confidence on the court in his short career so far. Many credit his confidence for his incredible recovery against Jannik Sinner a couple of weeks ago. However, it wasn’t as straightforward this time around against Jaume Munar at the Queen’s Club Championships. A match that even put doubts in the Spaniard’s head when the pressure was on him against his fellow countrymen.

Alcaraz comes off winning a tough battle

After a straightforward first set win for Alcaraz the next two would not be easy. Munar stayed strong to take the second set in the tiebreak 9-7 It required a lot of mental energy for Alcaraz to bounce back in the third and take it 7-5. In his on-court interview after his win Alcaraz did confess about having doubts mid match which he usually doesn’t have.

“I always say I never doubt myself, today probably a little bit”, expressed Alcaraz with a laugh. The Spaniard continued by saying, “Honestly, I was struggling with the serve. I saw him serving pretty well, playing pretty well. So there was a moment where I doubted myself. But it was just a flash.” Alcaraz believed that Munar was playing a high level of tennis and with his game a bit off on the day he was struggling. “I kept fighting, tried to find my good rhythm, my good base and I am happy to have finally won in the end.”

It was a good wake up call for Alcaraz, who is focused on building some grass form before the Wimbledon where he is a two-time defending champion. He will make note that he will have to maintain his level or else anyone on the tour can surprise when time comes. Alcaraz then defeated Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the quarterfinals.
