After constant rain delays bothered the ATP Libema Open organizers on Tuesday in Den Bosch, Netherlands, only two second-round men’s singles matches have been scheduled for Wednesday (along with the first-round clashes that weren’t played). No. 3 seed Karen Khachanov will open his campaign against Mackenzie McDonald, who trails him 0-4 in their head-to-head. Grass specialist Jordan Thompson will also be in action, facing Gabriel Diallo. Who do you think will prevail?
ATP Den Bosch Day 3 Predictions
Jordan Thompson vs Gabriel Diallo
Head-to-head: 1-1
Every year, Jordan Thompson becomes one of the most entertaining players on tour when the grass season comes around. The Australian loves to chip the ball and put his opponents in uncomfortable spots, while his own aggression also gets a boost from the surface. On paper, neutralizing big servers like Gabriel Diallo is something Thompson excels at. But don’t make the mistake of thinking this is an easy match, the Canadian will be powering through the court and making this a battle. He’s been in great form recently and Thompson will need to use all his trickery to keep him on his toes.
Prediction: Thompson in 3
Mackenzie McDonald vs Karen Khachanov
Head-to-head: Khachanov 4-0
Karen Khachanov has dominated this head-to-head over the years, but a meeting on grass sounds like a decent opportunity for Mackenzie McDonald to try do something about it. What looks promising is also that neither of their matches was ever a blowout. That said, it was the Russian who took their clash at Wimbledon in 2021. McDonald has already played three matches in Den Bosch this week and has to try to use that extra match rhythm to his advantage. Khachanov is the favorite, but the flat-hitting aggression of the American can be a force on this surface. Especially for a first match on grass in 2025, McDonald is not an easy opponent for the No. 3 seed here.
Prediction: Khachanov in 3
