French Open Day 2 Women’s Predictions

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Maya Joint

Jordan:
Tomljanovic retired in the Morocco Open semifinal a few days against Joint. The Australian teenager went on to win her maiden WTA title. A fully fit Tomljanovic will undoubtedly challenge her younger opponent, but I like Jount’s chances of carrying the momentum from securing her maiden WTA crown.
Prediction: Joint in 2

Nurein:
A battle of two Australians separated by one ranking spot. Joint won last week en route to the title in Rabat and should be able to do it again as she keeps rising up the rankings.
Prediction: Joint in 2

Andreas:
Joint is coming off her first career title in Rabat last week, not dropping a set. Joint and Tomljanovic notably faced off in that tournament in the semifinals, and Tomljanovic had to retire mid-match due to injury. Regardless of Tomljanovic’s health, Joint has more firepower and will use her better form to get the win.
Prediction: Joint in 2

Mayar Sherif vs Liudmila Samsonova

Jordan:
Samsonova enters the French Open after reaching her first clay-court final in Strasbourg. She cannot afford any complacency against Sherif, who is a specialist on the dirt. Samsonova’s firepower is favored to win, but it could be a close battle.
Prediction: Samsonova in 3

Nurein:
Samsonova is clearly the better player of the two and should be very confident ahead of this tournament after she won the title in Parma. Under normal circumstances, she should advance with relative comfort here.
Prediction: Samsonova in 2

Andreas:
Samsonova fell to Elena Rybakina in a thrilling WTA 500 final in Strasbourg, but her form continues to be up-and-down. The Russian won the pair’s lone meeting in 2022. For Sherif, she hasn’t been able to win big matches at WTA tour level, but she did win two minor-league titles on clay this season, one in Madrid and the other in Parma. Her struggles in big tournaments might be the difference in this matchup.
Prediction: Samsonova in 3

Lucia Bronzetti vs Ekaterina Alexandrova

Jordan:
Alexandrova is the bigger hitter, but Bronzetti will try to expose her movement, the weakest part of the Russian’s game. The Italian’s heavy topspin forehand is ideal for getting Alexandrova on the move. That might be enough to win despite how hard Alexandrova hits her groundstrokes.
Prediction: Bronzetti in 3

Nurein:
Alexandrova is clearly the better player of the two and she has been playing at a much higher level recently too, she should definitely be the one advancing here.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Andreas:
Bronzetti is yet to win a match at the French Open, while Alexandrova is far more experienced here, with three third-round appearances under her belt. The Russian’s power should be able to push past Bronzetti’s more versatile game.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Veronika Kudermetova vs Viktoria Tomova

Jordan:
Tomova’s best chance of beating Kudermetova is on clay. Although Kudermetova’s overall CV is more impressive, the Bulgarian has a chance of frustrating her by extending the rallies. Minor upset predicted.
Prediction: Tomova in 3

Nurein:
Tomova might lead the head to head, but she has been on a terrible streak here, coming into this tournament on the back of five consecutive losses. On current form, Kudermetova should be the one advancing here.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 2

Andreas:
Tomova is winless on clay courts this season, while Kudermetova has taken out tough opponents like Amanda Anisimova on this surface in 2025. Kudermetova is prone to errors and inconsistent serving, but she’ll be confident enough to reach the next round here.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 2
