Day 3 at the ATP 250 event in Geneva features a really interesting list of matches and is sure to be a great day of tennis. While Nishikori vs. Khachanov looks like the highest-level match on paper, the most interesting story is perhaps Karue Sell’s ATP-level debut, which will certainly garner the interest of the tennis community. But who will advance at ATP Geneva?
ATP Geneva Day 3 Predictions
Arthur Rinderknech vs Miomir Kecmanovic
Head-to-head: Rinderknech 1-1 Kecmanovic
Neither player has found much success so far in this clay season, but overall, Kecmanovic is the better and more consistent of the two, as well as the more comfortable one on this surface. Under normal circumstances, the Serb should win here and advance to the next round.
Prediction: Rinderknech in 2
Karue Sell vs Fabian Marozsan
Head-to-head: first meeting
From popular YouTuber to ATP main draw debutant, Sell is arguably the biggest story of this week. He certainly didn’t get an easy draw here, with Marozsan a very solid player on clay and a clear favorite in this match. The Brazilian will certainly do his best, and regardless of what happens, this is already an amazing story, but Marozsan should advance here.
Prediction: Marozsan in 2
Arthur Cazaux vs Hubert Hurkacz
Head-to-head: Hurkacz 1-0 Cazaux
Cazaux has the potential to go much higher than he currently is, but he has been struggling lately. Hurkacz finally had a strong week in Rome after a difficult period. This match could well go like their Australian Open match last year, very tight but with the Pole coming through on most big points and winning.
Prediction: Hurkacz in 2
Sebastian Ofner vs Nuno Borges
Head-to-head: Ofner 1-0 Borges
Despite the considerable difference in ranking, this should be a very tight match, especially considering how well Ofner played in qualifying and the first round here. Borges has established himself as a top 50 player, but quite an inconsistent one who can often be beaten by lower-ranked opponents. It should be a close match decided by small details.
Prediction: Borges in 3
Kei Nishikori vs Karen Khachanov
Head-to-head: Nishikori 5-2 Khachanov
Nishikori leads the head-to-head 5-0 off grass, showing that in his declined state, he is a very tough opponent for Khachanov. The Russian played very well last week and was actually Alcaraz’s toughest opponent en route to the title, but he is also known to be quite inconsistent. Nishikori showed a very good level against Learner Tien in the first round here. It should be a very tight match, as was their match in Hong Kong earlier this year.
Prediction: Nishikori in 3
